5 isn’t much list spots. Feel we should be turning over closer to 10.

As serviceable as Tmac and Melksham are, they are just going to be taking experience from the youth in 2026.
A whole offseason's worth of delistings never happen at once – there'll be more in the lead-up to trade period, and probably more again after trade period concludes. Happens every year

Off season isn't over but we're not gonna be drafting 10 players don't be silly.

Moving on the few leaders the club has for a 'youth policy' is the sort of thing that leaves you in a death spiral like North have been the past 7 years and we were in after 2006.

2 of those spots likely gone by Derksen and Heath. Probably another 1-2 Lamb specials to come also.

We have plenty of over 30s to be in a position to discharge 1-2. If anything it’s smart gradually losing them instead of clumping and then all retiring in a smaller window.

Plenty more water to go under the bridge.

Still likely to add Billings, Laurie (trade), Woey, and quite possibly Henderson and Spargo to the list of changes. Some of them might depend on how much we bring in during trade/FA.

Realistically, who would be trading for Laurie? Delisted FA or SSP pick if I've ever seen one

Tiges were interested early in the year apparently. If they still are, can't imagine we get much for him. He's contracted, so would have to be some kind of trade.
Future 19th rounder should do it

The intriguing thing with that first round of delistings is the ages.

Sestan 21, Verrall 21, Brown (nearly) 21, Fullarton 26, Hore 29. All of them sit just about in the age group the club has said they want to get more of. Not arguing with any of them (aside from Sestan, eff you Goody!), but we must have a few trades/FAs lined up given we don't appear to be going to the draft much this year. Maybe there's some we haven't heard about yet?

Kynan continues a proud history of father-son selections in the draft era (1986-now) for Melbourne:
  • Kynan Brown: :crossmark:
  • Taj Woewodin: likely :crossmark:
  • Billy Stretch: :crossmark:
  • Chris Johnson: :crossmark:
  • Brad Campbell: :crossmark:
  • Glen Molloy :crossmark:
  • Tom Kavanagh: :crossmark:
  • Joel Smith: :crossmark:
  • Jack Viney ✅
So in the 39 years of F/S in this format, we've landed one serviceable player lol.

Prove us wrong, Kalani. Prove us wrong.
In that time (off the top of my head):

Collingwood: Daicos x2, Shaw x 2, Travis Cloke, Darcy Moore, Nick Davis

Brisbane: Ashcroft x2, Jaspa Fletcher, Jonathan Brown

Geelong: Gary Ablett Jr, Matthew Scarlett, Tom Hawkins

Essendon: Dustin Fletcher, Joe Daniher, Jobe Watson

Dogs: Sam Darcy, Tom Liberatore, Jordan Croft, Lachie Hunter

Bloody Tim Lamb, partner our players with people with strong athletic profiles who will be entirely too pushy with getting their kids into footy!

This feels really "they're not picking him Mitch", and you can almost hear Cleary thinking this is BS... Doesn't have the best track record old mate McClure. So still hopefully a chance.

Dogs doing better than that even: Mitch Wallis, Rhylee West, Zaine Cordy.... erm, Ayce Cordy.

Was more listing 'good' players (Collingwood for instance have had a lot of misses too, i.e. the Browns and the bad Cloke brothers), but good call on Rhylee West, that was an oversight.

Wallis was decent, but largely forgettable.

Yep. I had Wallis and West pop straight into my head and thought they were decent enough to mention, then kind a petered out with the Cordys, lol.

Fullarton, Brown, Verrall, Hore and Sestan gone

I think Mich0 is onto something, the only way to un-Melbourne the club is a complete clean out. Lets trade everyone and have our own expansion draft without the AFL help.
