This thread is becoming increasingly popular, and to keep some sort of order, we will have some….

Rules of engagement:

1. Bring valid news or links to Twitter posts from notable sources. Don’t post screenshots or “some bloke just said on SEN” or what some “trade whisperer” has posted on a Facebook page.

2. Ignore what other team boards are putting up as trade offers. Don’t quote or bring them here either.

3. Don’t post “buckle up” for the lols.

4. If you can’t say anything nice about Worpel or CJ, don’t say anything at all. The continued slaps and backhanders are just going to be deleted.

Wonder if we’d look at Liam Ryan. Reportedly we had interest a few years back and sounds like he’s gettable this year. Think he’d be good again in a good team.
We put an offer to him. He wanted an extra $150k on top. We said nup.

I'm not one who usually starts thinking of hypothetical trades or that.

But surely we are getting in the ears of Sam Flanders from Gold Coast.

He nearly won the game for Gold Coast today when Dimma threw him on the ball in the last. However, considering that the 4th quarter today was the most midfield time he's received all year, there should be a possibility he's expendable for them. We will have to trade if we do want him, but we should have assets.

Last time we traded for a 23-24-year-old midfielder in a top team who wanted greater opportunities, they turned into a Brownlow Medalist (Tom Mitchell).

Definitely being wasted there but is he what we need? Not sure. I think our biggest problem is a marking target inside f50 really need Mitchell Lewis back or bring in someone like Allen. We seemed reluctant to kick the ball forward when we won centre bounce clearance and I can’t help but think that’s down to the lack of a key forward.

We need to bring in Jasper Scaife soon. He didn't play great today for Box Hill, but he took a good mark on the lead and kicked a beautiful drop punt from 50+ metre with distance to spare. The Box Hill forward line seems very convoluted so I don't exactly think he's getting the best opportunity there. He definitely has that marking ability in him. Scaife would allow Gunston and Chol more space and time to impact up the ground and help our ball movement woes at the moment.

But yes, I am very much in agreement that we need Lewis back. He has everything.

Richards tears us a new one every time we play the dogturds, any chance he's a free agent ?
Signed until 2030. I still hold hope Croc or Butts can become that type of player for us.

Signed a 5 year deal earlier this year I believe. Was an RFA.

He'd never leave the Dogs, but gee I'd like to see the media reporting that The Bont was seen having coffee with Mr & Mrs Mitchell for an hour or two.

If Oscar Allen was a story, The Bont would be on the back page for days.

He still hasn't signed, so why not ask the question and make sure the media knows.

He's still got 4 good years left you'd think, and would be the A grader that wins us a Flag.

He won't leave, but shows ambition and intent.

Gotten strong word that Worpel will be on his way to Geelong at seasons end.

Hope my source is wrong.
Interesting as Cats seem to be targeting everyone this year, but this is the point of the year where the odds of resigning start to narrow. If he hasn't signed through the bye rounds it starts to look concerning.

Hate for him (or any Hawk) to go to cats.

The way I understand the Worpel situation is, if he leaves Hawks get compensation, potentially Band one if the new contract is sizable. This would then mean we could use said compensation, plus Carltons R1 pick to trade for a player the likes of Butters or HR. But if we were to go after another free agent like Oscar Allen or JUH we would likely lose the compensation pick.

For this reason, I think the best course of action for the Hawks is to retain Worpel and use Carlton's pick and our F1 to chase a midfielder like Butters or HR, then chase a free agent forward.

Thoughts?

Agree big dipper. However, if Worpel does go, I hope we don't get Allen. I would rather the additional first round pick (compo) than Allen, TBH

If worpel leaves and you get a first for him (which I think is a stretch) and that unlocks Butters or Reid you tell Oscar to enjoy the Brisbane humidity.

Kind of a hypothetical, but not specific to players. With +2 future trading coming in, and now uncertainty over Tassie's team start date, what impact will this have on draft and trading planning?

Team pushing for top four would be more comfortable with trading those picks now. It's a gamble of course, and the picks will probably fetch 80 cents on the dollar.

The guy used to get 30-35 touches a game. A good accumulater and gets a lot of mileage with the footy.

Don't know why they've pushed him to the outside. He's less involved and not the weapon he used to be. Would be a great pickup for us.

If we get band one for Worp’s I would take that and run.
