I like the idea of Ryan not only for his on-field contributions, but also to act as a mentor for the likes of Collard.
And this is something intangible that we’d really lose at our club, especially with a lot of indigenous kids coming through our NGA this year and next and I expect thst to be incorporated into his value. Similar to what Brad Hill has provided your club. If Hill’s not there does NWM still sign? I don’t know.

I think we’ll ask for a player. Last thing we need is midrange draft picks.
Might be a 3-club trade then

Unless we are happy to part with a Steele/Hastie/Clark/Heath

You guys can have Byrnes too out of the kindness of our hearts

Liam Ryan seems like a strange one. I know he's been a very good player but he has kicked 30 goals in his career once and looks to be past his best. Definitely not the age demographic is expect us to be targetting.

What would his trade value be?

Was just thinking last night. Naz has become the highest paid player in the afl. If he went on to become a leader at the Saints (which I already think he is) and to win a premiership he would become an outright Saints and afl legend and probably reluctantly become the most prominent and eminent leader within the aboriginal community and indeed within the wider Australian 🇦🇺 community.
Haha for such a quiet and endearing young bloke his life might go well beyond his life’s ambitions.

For season 2026, if we have a fit Henry, Ryan, Higgo, Butler, Dow, Trav, then where does Lance fit in? He would have to start impacting games pre-season to get a sniff of selection.
Isn't that a good thing? You want a game lance, you've got to work your ass off and earn it.

Ronnie might be fighting for a listing spot at this point as well

I’m not suggesting a simple player swap but I’d say Boxshall, Wilson and Dodson would be at the top of our interest I’d say.

I don’t know how the club views Collard but knowing us I’m sure Steele would be of interest.

I’d love Travaglia but that would be Hawks 1R plus Ryan and salary and even that I don’t think Saints would bite.

You can have Owies and salary for free as part of any deal.

Any interest in Harvey Johnston? Ex Sandy Dragons.

Is the 'doesn't work hard enough' a reality or just something that supporters have labelled him with that has stuck?

Ross keeps on picking him (even if its as sub)... So I find it difficult to believe that would be happening if Lance was a lazy SOB.

Hard work is Ross' mantra above all else.
Ryan will play 20 games this season , not sure injuries are an issue
Ross keeps picking him as we have had no small forwards available all year apart from Higgo if you call him a small forward, Im pretty sure a lot of supporters think Lance could improve all parts of his game which then would make him a very dangerous player

As much as the size of the Tdk contract is a little galling to some of us ( including Thommo this morning)

POT, KETTLE BLACK...

GT has a poor memory then as his period at the Club, where he was in charge of contracts, was an era of oversized deals to a select few.

Big packages to TDK and Nas does make me nervous too. But this time at least as RTB explained last night the Club has set up well for this.

They paid out an extra bonus early this to our best performing older and loyal players, and explained to them what was in train to happen.

Our Salary Cap is out bottom end presently to:
1/ Allow for some larger contracts to select Targets and Nas
2/ To be able to pay more to our other young players who become very good, or even guns (Not all will)
and 3/ Allow some front end loading of contracts to some players now (ie I suspect this was the case with Max King's long term deal

And then Nas's 2 year deal means that if we do indeed improve over the next 2 years that he will probably then stay on what would be a very good deal, but probably less than the Crows, or Port will be throwing at him then, in order to keep playing with a playing group that he will be even tighter with than he is now. And Nas has already demonstrate that he strongly values playing with the current group.

And with Nas, the value in retaining him goes far beyond just helping us to win games.
He is set to become an icon of Club. Driving hope and belief and credibility.
People will come to games just to watch him play.

TDK is not at all as important to us as Nas is, but he will help us win, makes us more attractive to more players, sponsors and the like and build momentum. TK despite his second half of the season remains a Big Fish, and will be the first Big Fish that St Kilda has actually landed in the modern era.

With both Nas and TDK we are acquiring a lot more than just two players. Especially with Nas.

There is zero chance any of those 3 would be considered from our end without something else being involved imo

The 3 you mentioned are off the table. Boxshall just re-signed like 2 weeks ago, Ross loves Wilson, and Dodson could be anything. Travaglia is also off the table

It would be super counter-intuitive if we brought in Ryan and ditched Collard - I feel like Collard is one of the reasons why Ryan is a target

Steele - I'm happy to let go but given what Ross has said in recent weeks, I doubt he leaves

Not a fan of Harvey - I think he's too similar to what we already have as a slow outside forward half player. Would be a list clogger

Lance's biggest issue is his mental side of the game, just watching him train he sooks it up a lot. More then any other player i've seen in recent years. He really does have limitless talent, but he needs to work so hard on that side of his game.

Strikes me as someone who wants it without the work required. But i feel Ross is well and truly aware of that, hence why he gives him games when he doesn't really deserve it just to give him a taste and keep his spirits up. Becuase he mopes around the field at vfl and training, but he seems genuinely up and about when playing AFL. So it's not doom and gloom he just lacks maturity compared to the other youngsters on the list.

Liam Ryan is everything we need as a small forward. The age is a bit of a worry but obviously with Nas only signing for two years it’s forced us to fast track everything. Hopefully it doesn’t cost us any young players but Higgins, Ryan and Butler as our small forwards for the next few years is pretty enticing.

It'll only take 1-2 games for him to take off. A couple of crumbs fall his way, snags a few goals and builds confidence.

He seems really clean and one touch. Cant wait for him to take a huge hanger out of nowhere
