I feel more comfortable paying Nas $2 million than Reid. I do think Reid will become a top 3 player in the comp, though.

I'm not paying that to anyone unless they are absolutely dominating. I guess the WCE are in a different spot to most though.

Carlton… the same club who has a thread with posts wanting and hoping for us to go out of business/be shut down.

The same club who tried to close our doors.

The same club who publicly attacked us during the Hamill saga.

Nah I’m good. ** them. ** their supporters and I hope TDK swings his **** at them for the duration of his contract

They are like beating up a kid in a wheel chair these days. It feels mean. Like peeing in the window of a homeless guys car for a laugh.

Geelong would be crazy to trade him. Don't see it happening.

Connor O'Sullivan has better stats than him in his second year and I'm not sure many can carry two really big guys in a back 6. Geelong have changed up their slow rebound game plan and SDK has been looking a lot less dominant. Could be COS taking his space though.

You have got to hand it to the Cats, they find players and develop them quickly and to a high standard.

Top 4 contenders if we land SDK TDK Ryan Aleer and get Winx back

SDK is probably the most game changing of any of them along with Max. It would make an obvious hole filed.

I've watched both play. Marshall is the better more consistent player. TDK the better highlight reel and the odd outstanding game. He could be the best ruck ever, he could be an inconsistent and frustrating player that never quite realises his full potential. No problem with him apart from the contract length and wage that will still be sucking money out at year 7 regardless of how good or bad he becomes.

To me it's a gamble on a player that doesn't fill any of the more obvious holes that we have. It's not the mega contract I would have dangled. It may end up working out if the AFL rules change to allow run ups or it could be an anchor that stops us from moving when we are close to maxed in the cap. You'd hate to lose some of our best home grown talent to keep a B grade ruck on the books in a few years.

Regardless it looks like a done deal so we just have to hope like hell he can get some consistency in his game.

Good points.

Another point is if the Ruck Rule changes back to favour leaping ruckman is that Marshall is going to struggle at CBAs. Whereas that is TDKs strength.

In addition, with the current Ruck Rules it really advantaged Marshall's skillset when it came in. However, that advantage has been dissipating as more and more Club's have gained big bodied strong rucks like Xerri and Meek who Marshall cannot push aside.

So even if the Ruck Rules does not change I believe that Marshall's value in ruck contests will continue to decline.

Marshall is very mobile and remains very good around the ground and is a good mark.

I also think that getting TDK in, is largely about as part of our list rebuilding having a team that can be a contender from 2027 on, and to stay a contender for a period.

You cannot get every player that you need in the one season, and this season TDK was the only Big Fish that we could land. If St Kilda has a good 2026, we might suddenly find other Big Fish as suddenly willing to join us.

Marshall may only have 2 or 3 goo seasons left.

Lastly Nas and Hall were not part of our midfield rotation when we first approach TDK. Both Nas and Hall emerge late this season as mids who can burst away with real pace from the Centre Bounce and to then be damaging with the ball. This development means that TDK who can tap well, is actually more valuable to us than when we first approached him. If the ruck rule changes back to favour the leaping rucks, then Nas and Hall will be a real weapon.

If it actually is $1.7m then you cannot ignore that we'll be using a fair chunk of the $3m we have banked to front end TDK's deal.
Even if we pay him $2.5m per year for the next 2 years, it'll be $1.43m per year for the remaining 6 years 2028 - 2033.

(Based on $13.6m over 8 years, average $1.7 per year).

I won't guess what that figure will actually be but it will undoubtedly bring the final 5 years of his contract back to a very manageable level.

Not only that but Roma's current $800k deal will have expired by then.

We also have the $300-400k of marketing clams to throw into the mix (although I assume some of that will be headed Nas' way).
Has it been clearly stated by the AFL that this can be applied to a specific contract and isn't an additional payment to the specific designated players?

Won't the contract details come out once he nominates us and the paperwork gets filed?

Marshall is good as a utility, but we have been majorly vulnerable in the ruck (and by extension in clearances) for a number of years now. That was uncontroversially accepted among fans long before we were linked to TDK, so this is not some sort of cope. TDK is not as consistent as a utility, but we won't be monstered in the midfield due to opposition rucks tapping the ball down the throat of their midfielders before we can lay a glove on them.

In a perfect world, we trade Marshall for good value with his blessing and without causing any disharmony among the group. If that is not possible (either because we can't get value or it will be too disruptive to morale) then the coaches will have their work cut out for them to find a way for TDK and Marshall to work together.

TDK is a similar not that dominant ruckman that dump kicks too much. The game changer will be the relaxed ruck rules allowing a run up. If that goes through his leap could legit make him the most dominant ruck in footy. I have no problem with his game it's just cost that I don't agree with. Paying superstar money for an inconsistent ruck makes me want to spew. I'll still back him in and learn to love him if he performs.

Which stats does O'Sullivan have that are better than SDK that are relevant when comparing full-backs?

I'm keen on Aleer but if we can get SDK, we should obviously be ruthless and find a way to get out of the Aleer scenario.

I think SDK is a higher chance to be a gun than Aleer, who will need work.

We are in a pretty good situation right now. Looks like plenty of options.

The money issue has been explained ad nauseum.

Put all those sums together & the horror of a $1.7m, 7 year is very overstated.

In reality, to get a player who is already on $800-900k a year to move clubs would take at least $1.2m pa. We won't be far off that after the 1st few years of spending the bounty of our disciplined TPP strategy.

If Roma goes down & we have to rely on the kids then it's not stretch to say the progress we have to start making to keep Nas long term will be in jeopardy.

The more I look at it, the recruitment of TDK is absolutely essential.
All we be found out in the fullness of time
Dodson is a must sign
Will be an A grader if not elite

No matter how you look at it recruiting Aleer seems a stupid move.

That GWS supporter who came in earlier said it best, due to their injuries he had to play the Buckley role rather than the intercept defender role (wouldn't be surprised to see Aleer dropped this week due to Buckley's return). I think the club sees Aleer as the Battle replacement, ie. the intercept defender who isn't locking down a gorilla forward.
