Everyone has their own head canon on how this will play out.

Mines pretty simple: if he wasn’t genuine in his intent to stay, he wouldn’t be negotiating.

Because you can’t pull the wool over the clubs eyes, if you want to leave you need the saints to show some goodwill to wanting to get you home.

If Williams or Nas screw us around. We set the bar high and he doesn’t get to port.
Battle seemed to pull the wool over their eyes.
Players were convinced he was staying.
Then Boom, he left on his broom.

He was an unrestricted free agent so no trade had to be done, so it's a different scenario.

Has there been anything worth reading in the 94 pages of this thread over the last 4 days?
Only my posts. Absolute top shelf stuff if I don’t say so myself.

Left field thought. Future picks are compromised by Tassie. As the AFL is a law unto itself, it could insulate any picks we get from Tassie.
So Tassie get 5 of the first top ten for example, if our future picks were 4 and 6 for example they stay as is.
Anyway **** futures, I'm not death riding Port for a year. They could improve and we get absolute garbage picks.

Yea that’s a really good point.

You don’t go through all the trouble of asking your club to send an offer of what a 2 year contract looks like for no reason. The informal talks about the pay is all Ben Williams needs to take to Port or Adelaide to get them to up their offers.

Nobody draws up an official contract if there’s little chance it’ll be signed.

They will improve if Nas is playing for them and they didn't give up any good players to get him.

Putting a proposed contract in front of your potential new employer carries a lot more weight than repeating the details of "informal talks." That would absolutely be used to get the SA teams to up their offers

St Kilda have given their final contract to Nas. There won’t be another one offered. You don’t get to that point if talks aren’t progressing well

When he says it's with his manager and he is concentrating on football, I believe that is exactly what is happening. He is being directed by the manager and what do you think the manager is saying to him when each week his brownlow odds are dropping?

It's a classic shakedown and if I was his manager, I'd be doing the same thing.

Why wouldn’t port just offer what they have and say take it or leave it. Really if Nas is intent of joining port we have the threat of being forced into the draft and little more.

If he’s open to joining Adelaide our bargaining power may improve but not by much. We’re faced with getting nothing or potentially accepting future 1st rounders, which are you going to take ?.

We don't even know he's negotiating. He may have made up his mind and the decision has been made and he's just playing a straight bat until the season's over. i.e "I'm just focusing on my footy right now. We'll sort that out in due course", or whatever similar he said after last week's game.

The Goodwin sacking is so interesting. A Premiership Coach* that never got the best out of his players or list after 2021. Reportedly very well liked by the players, so it’ll be interesting to see if there are any ramifications.

I wonder what someone like Pickett is feeling, after re-signing long-term. And if Oliver and Petracca decide to move on now that there’ll be a new coach.

*COVID year, doesn’t count

Initially I agreed with this, it’s complicated for port there are conditions they need to meet around afl rules.

Now we’re all of a sudden dealing with a new chief in town, father son to go, no bounce and more to come. Trading butters a year early makes sense from the outside but who knows what’s really going on.

I think most of us have wavered between Nas stays, Nas goes and we do ok and Nas goes for some future picks. I’m at the stage where nothing to do with st Kilda or the afl really surprises me anymore.

I have to say none of this stresses me, it annoys me but that’s about it.

On a different note I see Goodwin is gone, might take a bit of heat of us.

That just doesn't make sense. "Final offers" are generally made when said party is fed up and has drawn a line in the sand, refusing to be pushed along any further.
