The JHF trade was a bit of a sleeper as while everyone knew that he was unhappy, he was contracted for another year and was expected to see it out and then leave.

By the time Twomey broke the story on the Sunday night before trade period, North and Port had agreed the basics of the deal (two firsts).

Trade period dragged out with the involvement of other clubs and haggling over late pick swaps.
Another relevant delay was the AFL blocking Port's desire to circumvent future trading rules.

Ok check his stats for turnovers and clangers, then cheapies. What you won’t see is hard ball gets, we have given him free rein. It’s not helping us, you think the Nas feast got us up over north but you have it all wrong. The Nas feast if killing us, we were better when he played his role.
Quoting yourself to continue trashing our best player is a bold move

Posted by BackfromUSA on SS unsure of accuracy/history:

“Multiple VERY good sources say he will sign, but then again, I had an impeccable source that Lyon would sign that next morning as coach and he walked to Freo the next morning. I am told that the cost of NAS will mean that one lined up recruit may not be afforded unless a back ended deal can be swung - and it is not TDK - or we sacrifice current players.

Who could foresee that the value of NAS would double this year AND 50% alone in the past 6 or 7 weeks.”

The one thing im really struggling with is all this talk that we had massive room in the cap. Enough to offer TDK 1.7 and throw out 2m to Rowell to see if he was at all keen.

Now surely we still have that 2m laying around. And even if we were originally putting aside a max of 1.2 it still means that we should have plenty spare.

What are we missing? We've been told that we have been better with our contracts and having money 'saved'

It’s symmetrical payoffs only when both parties cooperate. Once they start playing chicken the game becomes asymmetrical and Nas gains significant leverage because we face a catastrophic loss (losing him for nothing) while Nas faces manageable uncertainty (draft risk but still possible SA outcome).

Yeah that's my point. The prisoner's dilemma requires symmetrical risk, but because the risk here is asymmetrical we're ****ed.

Has there been another time that a player is on the cusp of being so loved or so hated with one decision?

Not sure the footy public will warm to him much like JHF if he leaves and the saints fans will never forgive him.
Stay and he could be in the top five saints if all time leave and the boos at marvel in 2026 bs Power will be hard to ignore for the lad
Oh he doesn’t have to worry about that, we barely ever play Port in Melbourne 🙄

Edit: Damn. Beaten to the punch by Matt Mann

heartbreaking, have accepted he's gone.

He was offered a longer contract there. ( pardon the pun)
Maybe so, but that was a piece of his rhetoric at the time.
And he did play defender in his first season there.
Sort of meh.
Dropped by the late rounds,
Reserves.
Point being, they say anything.
When NAS said, “I’m happy at SAINT Kilda (instead of St Kilda) “ , I worried. As any mortal fan should.
Shiver me timbers.

Yeah not sure what went wrong there I was quoting Joffaboy.

Anyway it still stands the stats tell the tale as does the eye test. Nas had a boys own against Melbourne, other then that it hasn’t really worked that well.

Last one on Nas:

if he nominated the club as his club of choice. Do you believe you can get the deal done ? Are you in a position to get the deal done?

“Yeah I’m confident if that were to happen our guys could make the deal happen. BUT THERE IS ALOT OF WATER TO GO UNDER THE BRIDGE YET”
now im worried,if he is staying there shouldnt be enough water under the bridge to hold it up this long, what this guy says & no staying announcement yet begins to add up to the wrong number for saints fans

Brother, stop worrying about it. It’s over, he’s leaving. hugely disappointed but it’s happening.

Lies, damn lies and statistics. So don't believe my lying eyes?
I see the best, most damaging midfielder wr have had since Harvey, you quote sterile stats.
You are at the bargaining stage of the 5 stages of grief.
Nah he's not that good anyway 😅

I wouldn’t listen to any reports of family members giving their thought.

I’m sure his aunty in WA or cousin down the road have no idea what his plan is. If there were leaks within the family circle, it’ll get snapped up in a second and we’ll know through the media. None of that has happened and will unlikely happen.

I’ve been calling it out since it stared, if he walks you won’t miss him half as much as you think.
