Yes but TDK's deal sets him up for the life of his footballing career. It's his 'free agency' contract - the contract that maximises his remuneration in the prime of his career

Conversely, if you overpay a 22 year old like Windy now, you need to be prepared to overpay them just as much when they hit free agency in 4 years

No you don’t, you pay him based on what he’s doing at the time. If he’s a spud he’s worth Jack, if he’s a star we won’t care about paying him. Actually a protection and a sign that he has a lot of self belief. If we have such a huge war chest that we have to burn it or lose it, why would it matter. You guys think it’s free money anyway. TDK is being paid the biggest ever contract in footy over 7 years and he’s a project ruck. Good luck to any FA finding another team as desperate to burn cash in the future.
