Had a weird dream last night. Dragons were chasing me and I was running towards a cave. Problem was the cave entrance was covered by a large rock. I couldn't budge it. Just as the dragon's flames were getting closer a genie appeared and said I must know the magic words to make the stone roll enough to let me through. I didn't know what they were so I sat and accepted my fate. Just then, the ghost of my dead Grandmother appeared (bless her) I said "Granny!!!! do you know the magic words?" "I do little sully ya cheeky bugger (she always thought I was a cheeky bugger)... repeat after me....Ben Williams is a complete and utter f*ckwit"
The cave was really nice once I got inside
Thanks Gran

I think the biggest issue being kind of ignored he is the track record of the club, and the individuals running the club.

I dont care how you want to paint it, the cats, in the last 20 odd years are about 14 times top 4, and close to 16-17 times playing finals. It's ridic and that is NOT luck, farms in Lara or father son. It is the fact that the entire fabric of the club makes it a place people want to be.

They lose players, sure - but they bring in better. The develop, they have stability and the fact that you don't hear the same bullshit being said about them in the media, that is being said about us, is further proof.

Where there is smoke there is fire. Plain and simple. Nobody would bother making up shit about Geelong becuase it is totally not believable.

This is what we want to aim for - where the fabric the damn essence of the club is about belonging, fairness, respect, TRANSPARANCY, effort, performance etc.

At the moment, we are peddling the victim mentality, and it won't take us anywhere. Continual poor decisions are being made. The TDK offer isn't the issue, its the damn timing of it. You don't need to chase that guy pre-season, that hard. You need to sort out your own backyard first- which, we didn't.

No more excuses.

I also had a dream where Tony appeared, tucked me into bed, kissed me on the forehead and whispered, "in the fullness of time".

No, you absolutely DO have to chase those players. Player deals are months, if not years in the planning. We would have been talking to all available players we were interested in since the start of last season.

You talk about Geelong, the reason they pulled off the "Bowes and Pick 7" fiasco was by getting told about the gold coast salary issue the previous year then spending the next 12 months talking to Bowes. Thats why he barely spoke to any other clubs, he had agreed to Geelong terms months before anyone else cottoned on.

Also sorry but this "victim" mentality is absolutely the wrong call. The weak thing to do is to sit back and let every other team use the system to get ahead whilst we languish even further. Calling it out has forced the issue to be addressed and we are already seeing the AFL commission have to have hard discussions about the levels of academy access and potential changes to father son. Victim mentality is gutting your list then asking for priority picks to undo the damage, not calling out legitimate issues we face in rebuilding.

I'm just happy none of our players have been out all season with a chronic finger injury that can't seem to be treated effectively.

Having had ties to the Cats through family connections for decades, I can say that Geelong had always had strong leadership and values from the top, no tail wagging the dog, no star player bigger than the club, and the coaching driven hard from the top. Sadly for the Saints, it's mostly the opposite, hence lack of success.

Although we hear Lyon giving it back to the media at pressers, it's mostly spin from a bloke who does it well, and is covering up the fact that we have gone backwards in three seasons, and it all falls at the feet of those running the club and their poor decisions..many short-term, quick-fix.

Top players don't grow on trees, and like business, sometimes you have to pay big money to get the right people to grow your business, so throwing money at TDK, Reid is an investment in getting this club into finals. You make your own luck.

Care to name the 'many short-term, quick fixes' that have made the club go backwards over the past 3 seasons?

Since Ross took over we have focused almost entirely on the draft (the opposite of a short term, quick fix).

Good post re the victim mentality. And agree with you re Geelong being a damn well managed club. The evidence is there to see as you have outlined. However, it's not exactly a level playing field. They have their own recently completed, upgraded 40,000 + stadium. It's a fortress when you look at their record there. Must be 95% plus pro them crowd when they play at home and I have no idea of the actual numbers but would be very surprised if the financials on their home games aren't off the charts compared to our home games at Marvel - 11 or 12 times every season. But yep their management, stability and player development is best in the comp.

Yes, but you dont finish top 4, and win multiple flags by winning a handful of games at Kardinia. in fact theyve been forced to play finals at the G, and still won (albeit they do complain, but its justified)

Whatever they have been doing since coming out of the 90s with SFA to show for having the GOAT, as worked.

We were on par with them in the earl 2000s,both young, full of talent success starved and primed

We went in opposite directions and the time for excuses is well and truly over.

I would kill to get a spot within the club to see what the hell is going on.
