Bottom line is if they want him enough they have to show how much by paying the appropriate amount
You can’t chase a top 5 player on 1.5 mill a year and say we ll give you 2-3 picks in the 20s or 30s.
Afl would know that’s a shocking look from a team that finished top of the ladder
I agree with you but the AFL don’t care about shocking looks for teams on the top of the ladder. They get one pretty much every year and have nothing about it.

The book should be thrown at him considering what Collard copped.
Finlayson got 3 weeks, Clarko got a fine. Collard got 4?

I seem to recall them saying the bans would all increase for each new one to make a point. Walker copped 6 for the racist comments a few years back.

You can almost guarantee itll be two weeks, hes back for an elim final.

I get that but these clubs are in sth aust not one of the northern clubs , and especially in an environment that is becoming more highlighted, between top and bottom clubs

This is Nas we are talking about, the other club will tell the nominated players to **** off, regardless of what they want. And let's be honest, it's their job, they aren't fanboys or girls, they'll do what's best for them. And that would usually mean bye bye, after all, would they want to be the ones that scuppered Nas coming to their club?
Pretty sure the AFLPA would have a lot to say. You cannot force contracted players to move against their will.

Exactly, we need talent, and more of it. Nas on his own is not going to make us improve from a bottom 6 team to a top 6 team, it's just give the ball to Nas and let him take on 2-3 players. It's not sustainable, and we're still poor at most facets of the game. Until we can at least break even in the midfield, anything else is just a bandage solution.

The big jump will happen when we have 3 or 4 guns which we already have and a huge pool of solid B graders with another group of young promising talent nipping at heels to keep players performing.

Those Bs likely come from the pool of Windhager, Phillipou, Garcia, Boxshall, Wilson, Caminiti, Tauru, Travaglia, LOC, Dodson, Dow, Keeler, Owens, Carroll, Hastie, Henry, Collard etc. Most are uneven and inexperienced. Once they develop to a point that their baseline is a consistent AFL standard we are away. That's usually 23 plus years old and plus 50 games. Some of those will jump beyond that and some won't make it.

Our best A grade talent is Wilkie, Nas, Sinclair, Hall and Marshall. King if he ever gets on the park.

Solid core best 22 are Wood, Hill, Macrae, Steele, Higgins, Sharman, Owens, Windahger, Webster, Howard etc.

Fringe best 22- Clark, Stocker, Jones, Dow etc.

We can only pick 22 players each week and there is already a heap of places held up by best 22 players. Realistically we need to pump games into kids and now start honing the list rather than bulk changes. We should used less picks and try to move them up in to very targeted players. Key position depth and talent and small forwards look lacking to me. The midfield is looking like it's on a very good path with Windhager, Garcia, Phillipou, Travaglia, Boxshall, Dow types giving lots of scope for improvement and depth cover.

You forgot to mention his penchant for bow ties and loud eyewear…

… to a team that has been a perpetual struggler.

Edit: Not that they’d give two hoots about how it’s perceived. Just look at Ashcroft to the premiers 🙄

That's not how it works, otherwise, no club would be able to get fair compensation in trades. Nas wants to go home to SA, so naturally there are 2 clubs to go to, 1 might be his preference, but it's up to that club to be able to satisfy St kilda and Nas. Assume their contract to Nas is not an issue, then the 2 clubs need to outbid the other to satisfy St Kilda, so we actually hold some pretty decent cards, not the best because Nas' contract is up, but better than many of you think (that we're just going to bend over and receive some junk future picks is incorrect)
No that’s no how it works unless nas is happy to go to either.

If he nominates Adelaide then Adelaide it is, we hold nothing but a vague threat. It’s tough but let’s hope he signs and we can get on with bringing players in. The last thing we need is for this to drag out until the last day.

my son got it for me for a month for $1 back in june, because he simply doesnt have normal tv and doesnt plan to ever get it,he and his gf just put on any old crap on netflix and whatever & get any other info off their phones,it seems that he can do that over and over using a different email address,im back in a months time and the ryder cup will be on soon after i arrive,so will be looking to get it again

i reminded him to unsubscribe in case it rolls over and charges him the full amount for the 2nd month onwards, she went to bulldogs games as a kid,but niether have the slightest interest in sport
You just need the right device for a once of payment and you can watch every American , English , German ect TV shows plus

This is not Nas specific but if you’re in a two team town surely you want to drive a hard bargain on out of contract players returning home.

If you can put a few clubs off drafting the local youngsters because of the flight risk it’s a huge win. Even seeing a player who might have been top 10 slide several places is a potential win.

I think there is a key part to all of this that is being overlooked.

Tex Wanganeen was happily playing in the VFL at Port Melbourne and has chosen to go back to the VAFA on the notion of potentially playing at St Kilda next year.

It would be rather strange to forego an opportunity to play VFL in 2025, merely on a ‘possibility’ of reuniting with Nas.

That is a significant clue in my opinion.

Tex would not have made that decision without consultation with Nas.

If he did, he put his own footy aspirations at great risk to join the lower ranks.

I reckon the answer has been staring at us all along.

From Paul Amy - as good a source of suburban sport as anyone else out there.

Meanwhile, St Kilda is believed to be one of the clubs interested in its former father-son prospect Voss, who has emerged into a long-kicking and tough half back with Frankston.
The 23-year-old son of Brett is among the favourites for this year’s Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal.
Is there an age limit on a player nominating as a FS?

I don’t think the afl care to be honest.

What did Geelong pay for smith ?. Wasn’t it 17 and 38 for smith and 45. Bailey smith was a high draft pick and had starred for the bulldogs.

I just don’t see why we would get a much better deal. Both young, both out of contract, both going to top teams without high draft picks.

I can't be the only person who thinks it's perhaps a little bit cruel for St Kilda to link Tex's future in the AFL to Nas' contract.

Nas is 22 years old. He's got the weight of the entire St Kilda Football Club on his shoulders, the weight of his family telling him to come home and now the weight of Tex Wanganeen's career. No wonder he's struggling to make a decision.

The details of smiths departure matter.

He had a drug (or behaviour) suspension, the dogs have an insane list stacked with talent, he was coming off a knee injury and it was clear the relationship had soured badly with the dogs and him.

None of those things are true for Nas with us.

I broadly agree the afl don’t care, ultimately if we accept an offer then the afl won’t stand in the way of it but if we’re rejecting the offers being made the afl can and likely will step in, noting there’s not a whole lot they can actually do anyway

Look, people are going around in circles on this. It's not actually super complex. Here's why we have approx zero negotiating power.

Trade period coming to a close, no deal done, mediocre offer on the table.

Port say "take it or leave it".

We say to Ben Williams "if we can't get a deal done, will Nas re-sign with us?".

Why would he say yes? Nas wants to get to Port. If he says Nas will re-sign with us then why would we bother getting a deal done? So he has to play hard ball.

He replies:

"**** no, we'll go to the PSD and take our chances. I've spoken to West Coast and North and Richmond and whoever and made it clear Nas won't play for them. I'm confident he gets to Port".

And then what does SOS do in that situation?

He has three options:

1: Walk away from the table and assume Williams is bluffing and that Nas will re-sign if we don't do a deal. Potentially get nothing when he goes to the PSD.

2: Accept the deal, in which case we lose Nas and get something.

3: Do nothing and just hope that Port come with a bigger offer because they're worried about the PSD.

Which should he do?

If Adelaide is the team then they have a big incentive to get a deal done. If Naz fell into the draft then Port would snap him up in a heartbeat.

Id assume we'd be getting something like Rachelle, Edwards + 2x late first rounders for Naz + change.

RoMa out for the Cats (future?) 1st

TDK in for cash.

Steele for Aleer? Or a F2nd special?

Collard for Ryan + change?

Aim for Jevan in the draft.

It's gonna be ugly either way...

Collard got six weeks and that was in the VFL. Does the VFL tribunal feel it has to be heavy handed on AFL listed players to be relevant? They gave Tauru four and I do t think the AFL tribunal has given that long for a similar incident.
