2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Would this work:

Steele & 7 to WCE for Ryan, 12 & 19
12 to GCS for Flanders
19 to GWS for Aleer
Future first to Hawks for McKenzie, hoping we have some improvement next season
There are 3 other rounds of picks that can be traded. We dont need to come up with hypotheticals that value everyone at some sort of first round price.

I've been following this Club long enough (not as long as others, of course) to know when St Kilda is being run well compared with a rudderless mess that it has been in the past. Nothing is guaranteed in life, but you can see that the pillars (as RTB previously referred to) have been erected and the fruits are beginning to sound.
As Stav so happily mentioned, I've been on around these traps for longer than some posters last sucked on their mums tit and this is by far the most well run I can recall the club being. Even in the 2000s, we were a shit show of a business, and the club was much the same as VFL side at admin level.

There is reason to be excited about this version of St Kilda

I love throwing everything at it the next two years. I would have usually been more conservative, but we need to have a massive crack while we have Nas and Ross.

If we could snag Flanders, Ryan and Aleer for our 1st and a future 2nd, I'd be pretty pleased.

CMac is decent, but I think with Wilson, Garcia, Philippou, Boxshall and Windy, we have a decent group of young mids.

If Steele was to entertain a trade how do we convince him to go to another club other than GWS. I dont think GWS will fit his contract into their TPP, so it woud have to be a 3rd club.
I could see him at liking life at West Coast but not sure he's the type they need. North might be a better fit, age wise.

Would honestly want Boxshall to be next cab off the rank. I think it's time for Steeley to go for his own sake.

I feel like our midfield group could all be on the verge of breakouts. Nas is already elite, Windhager and Hall are already pretty good. Wilson and Garcia have had some really good performances.

Hope Dodson, Keeler, Collard and Schoenmaker can all knock the door down too and give us some real selection headaches.

I reckon his and Marshall's current contracts would have been heavily front-loaded, so maybe they can still get it done. Might also be opportunities for them to get decent pay bumps if they agree/ask to move elsewhere

12 to GC for a guy playing half forward and was sub.
19 to GWS for a guy who isn't in their best 22
Future first to Hawthorne for a guy who hasn't played that much and is not that highly rated anymore.
Terrible asset management

you continue to preach how we are stuffing everything up without knowing 1 single players wage.
You're right that I don't know what every single St Kilda player is earning

What I do know:

- What our highest paid player will be paid

- How much the cap is (for 2026 and 2027)

- The recent cap trends

- The current TV rights deal runs until end of 2031

- Other AFL clubs have recently run into salary cap dramas by doing what St Kilda is doing, or similar

What I am assuming with a moderate degree of confidence:

- What our 2nd highest paid player will be earning

- The reality that players don't take pay cuts when they change clubs, usually the opposite

- St Kilda has plenty of exciting young players who'll be demanding significant pay increases as they develop and enter their primes.

- Those players will reasonably be expecting their slice of the pie, knowing how St Kilda has given outside player/s what can only be described as generous deal/s

Those things are enough to have me worried.

If they don't worry you, fair enough.

But suggesting I'm some crazy doomsayer is ridiculous in light of the reasonable basis for my concerns.

I would be wanting a second rounder for the Moose. 🫎 fmd we’ve only been developing him
For five years.
Would also give him
A two year
Contract extension immediately.
Dees ****ed up by expressing their interest in him seeing as he was
Probably only going to be delisted anyhow.

I hope we wouldn't be considering giving up a first for any player we are currently interested in, even if it's in a package deal or trading down.

(Edit: other than McKenzie)

Its pointless having two rucks on the list that take up 2.5 million in the cap so I can understand trading Marshall and using that pick on Flanders.

GC already have 3 X top 15 picks though so I'm not sure they have a lot of interest in another teens pick?

I doubt we stand in Moose’s way if Melbourne are keen, even if Melbourne offer **** all. Seems to be the done thing these days for rucks 2nd or 3rd in line.

Also wouldn’t blame him with Marshall, TDK and the emerging GOAT ruckman in Dodson debuting at AFL level in his first year. Has slogged away at Sandy for 3 or 4 (?) years.

I see the Marshall & Steele chatter has returned. Honestly, can understand the Steele chatter (despite him being captain), simply due to the midfield coming through. We need to pass the torch to Garcia, Wilson, Pou, Windhager, Nas soon. And if we land Flanders, that’s another pushing for a spot. We’ve also got Macrae for another few years and it seems we’re in an awkward spot of having to pick which of Steele and Macrae we send to centre bounces.
Tommy Campbell's time is finally up?
