2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

On the Windy contract. If Windy signs for significantly less than the North offer, that will be two Saints resigning when rivals have offered significantly more.

Will the brain dead footy media see the corelation between offering significantly more to get a player out of their club ( TDK for example) or will they continue their idiot trope that the Saints are reckless and overpaying players to come to the Saints?
They'll probably say we should never have traded pick 6 for Carlisle

Lyon hasn't proven anything on field but he's structured us to be in the race at least. The footy department under the last lot was like a backyard operation trying to race in the GP. Lyon has built a platform to work off. It might not work out but it has a lot more chance of working out than how we were set up before.

Ratts and Richo were both happy to have a job and not rock the boat demanding money for the back of house stuff and were hamstrung by it. At least when Lyon hands over he will be handing over a properly funded and structured football department. It's the absolute basics of a footy club and without it you can't compete.
I suppose the difference was that we chased Lyon and had to give him guarantees that he could do what he thought necessary.
Richo and Ratts chased the job and didn't have the power or time to rebuild the list.

Pressure on Lyon next season.

If you cannot see the 180 degrees the club has done then I’m sorry.

Just have a Quick Look at the difference in our list from three years ago to now.

We made finals once with a list that was not going to get us to top 4. Improvement is not always linear, but this group is going to spike soon.

We are in a better place now, no question, to springboard into a successful era.

As much as I complain they are doing everything I've ever asked. I'll still always whinge until we are the best run club in footy but they have done a lot of major structural changes that are so far ahead of where we were. They deserve credit for what they have done too this point. Still don't have time to coast along though. This is where whips start cracking and we need the results to pay off the effort put in.

I'm much more confident that we have built a list of strong youth to build around now. Even if we start to add players and step away from the draft a bit more there is a huge pile of a very promising youth that should at least have a smattering of high end talent in it. Last time the pool was way too small and too many eggs in a very small basket.

As there should be on any coach and it's not a bad thing. Also a very experienced coach who's run clubs under pressure. It should be right in his wheel house.

I still rate him as a manager of men. We'll see if he still has the structural and game plan elements next year and if not we seem to have enough experienced people around him that can help push a more modern game plan or at least help move us forward.

Might not be popular but would be open to getting Hollands. Trust ross to sort him out and even to just build depth for the vfl team.
I think we have enough half forwards in the AFL squad; Hall, Hill, Henry, Wilson, Pou, Ryan, Collard

Would be a nice addition to the Saints VFL team though especially if Ross makes it clear that if you can stop being a clown for a year then we might give you a chance

He didn’t specifically say TDK.

He touched on bringing players into the club and what it would have looked like and the list strategy etc and then spoke about how many drafts we would need to replace Nas.
TDK was free from a draft prospective, and Aleer I'm pretty sure would've already been agreed to, every journo has reported it's pretty much a lock. The shift has come with the enquires on Cmac, Ryan and Flanders. I feel if we didn't sign Nas those 3 wouldn't be a consideration and we would have to go back to the drawing board.

I get the sense that Boris is the overall game plan consigliere and based on previous RTB comments re being more free with the assistants, he is likely given a pretty free hand on it.

What do you think Cmac is if you believe we have enough half forwards

I like that idea. Get him in the VFL team and throw the challenge to him.

Personally I'm hoping we don't trade Marshall. Unless we bring in another tall forward. I don't trust Hammer as a forward, Keeler still very raw. Matching up on Marshall and King could give teams nightmares.

I love Marshall and hate the way he's disrespected on here but TDK and Marshall look like one too many of the same player. If you could convert him into a 10 year gun player it's almost better than getting him to 31 playing VFL and having little to no trade value. I've never seen two rucks work yet unless one is a genuine forward threat. Marshall is surprisingly poor and a stay at home forward and needs to sneak in as an extra to impact.

You know how they're different, 1 wins hitouts the other doesn't. 1 is a weapon in the Centre bounce the other is a weakness. Around the ground and link up chains similar.

Don't know if Roh is disrespected on here, they way other players are.
He has two years on a contract, we can test the partnership next year and if it is struggling still get value for him.
All on the proviso that he wants to leave. He is a loyal bloke but if a strong and well run club like Geelong came knocking, and he wanted to go, well I would be ok with that.
It's not like we are sending him to Carlton or North. In his latter career he may have a chance at a flag.

Feels to me like jack Silvagni had been a fairly average player and then had 1 good (not amazing) season as a defender? What am I missing here

Yeah i don't see the appeal. Looked elite at times as a defender but is still injury prone.

Not one id be offering huge money for.

I have been really keen on Aleer, but i thought he was a lot younger. I thought he was only 21.

Its not like he's old, still has his entire prime ahead of him, but it makes me less enthusiastic about his potential as he'd be closer to the finished product than I thought.
