2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

We (Tasmanians) are our worst enemy.

The cost benefit analysis is totally out of whack for this report. Does not take into account the investment and $s it would bring into the state.

Can understand those who do not want a Tassie team, as a passionate Tasmanian (who lives 500mtres from Cascade brewery) I do!
Cascade Stout yummmo ❤️

I wonder what Bevo says to Cal when he calls Bevo tomorrow to tell him “yeah, nah, not interested sorry”?

I’m guessing something to the effect: “You’ve been preying on us… You’re gutter. You’ve got the audacity to do what you did last night, and now you’re going to come here and ask questions. You’re an embarrassment.”.

🤣🤣

Shit weather and sitting in the rain, the average rainfall for Hobert isn’t too dissimilar to Melbourne. UTas Stadium across the years hasn’t been an issue.
The reality is, find an AFL size Stadium with roof across the globe that has been successful?
The temperature is less. I live in Sydney. There is more rainfall here but it’s not as cold so it matters less.

I don’t need to convince you because what I posted is the equation that matters, given it’s the one in play.

Simply, don’t sign up to what you can’t deliver and expect delivery. Perhaps state government will work in mysterious ways and they will still get a team. Who ever knows with Steve government? But chances look diminished right now. And that’s the most important factor.

You need to get out more , think of the footy trips you could do to Tassie instead of being on here 24/7 , The only ones who bag the joint have never been there
Having lived there, the locals are happy for the Northern Islanders to think poorly of it and stay away, I wouldn't want shitheads coming to my place and whinging and moaning about it.
Same applies with Adelaide, all the Melbourne nufties with their heads stuck up there arse...can keep them there.

People state the fact we are the second driest capital city in Australia as the rationale for no roof. Whilst that is true, when winter hits the air is wet and dew settles almost every night.
Add to the fact that the roaring 40s wind gets up in August, so it can be windy and damp, particularly near the waterfront. So a roof is definitely a good option.
It is a nice place though. I promise 😂
Exactly. The reduced rainfall is why you hear every day that people are moving from the tropics to Tassie at an all time rate these days!

If Wilkie is still agitating for more money because recruits are being paid well and he is unhappy about it then I don’t think it’s is a great reflection of character.

He would have asked for the term of the contract and agreed to the money before he was even worth that amount.

We can’t just start renegotiate with every player that out performs their contract. It would suggest Wilkie’s talk of wanting keep growing into a contender is actually just word salad.

Hold him regardless. I think his athleticism (lack of) will hamper his ability to play at this level from 32 onwards. Signing Wilkie till he is 34 is every bit as reckless as what we have offered JSOS and Ryan.
Clickbait.

wilkie should get a new number and give his old sim to k.cornes,im tipping kano would be in on that

"hey Cal wheres your mind at re our offer?"

"wrong number bevo, this is the korn, wanna catch up for coffee?"

Just so it's clear, no one here is putting shit on the State of Tasmania. It's a beautiful place and was one of my fav places to visit. We just don't want the Tassie Devils--they will stuff up drafts and likely offer Wanga 3 million a season plus a 1.5 million signing bonus, by way of example. I want what is best for the Saints.

I’m from Tassie and I agree with everything you’re saying.

Tassie comes in and takes all the good draft picks that causes problems for all 18 teams including us.

As a passionate saints supporter and AFL in general I could never get behind Tassie as my number 1 team, yes I would follow them closely but not at the saints expense.

Will be great for the state to get its own team but if it falls over I can’t say I’d be shattered.

You dont get it. The pick isn’t the reason. Similar situation to Members last year, and I'd say if we can't find out a new home for Steele this year, he'll probably get moved out in the same in the same way the following year, and I'd imagine all list managers from the other clubs know it too.
I don't see how losing Marshall (while contracted and the bulk of his salary has been paid) benefits us more than keeping him. Especially for a poor pick in a bad draft.

TDK was targeted to pair WITH Marshall and also to allow Marshall/TDK to support King.

The Membery comparison isn't relevant either. Marshall has more years of quality football in him than Membrey, is contracted and is filling a position on the list we don't have great depth in. Membrey was moved on because we have Keeler, Pou, Owens and Wood.

Sorry, that’s a scheduling issue by the AFL not an infrastructure issue. But more so, we are basing one match’s weather conditions to build a stadium with a roof. When the same matches in the same wintry conditions can be played at the MCG without a question nor the outpouring for a roof? Or perhaps it’s the heat in Perth? Like I said, the Buffalo Bills nor the NFL seem to have an issue with their open stadium.
Exactly!

Using the cold rain as an excuse to bully Tassie into buying their (AFL/developers buddy consortium) stadium built by their investors. Tassie should have every option on the book open to them. Play a mixture of Launceston and Hobart. See how it goes. test the waters. Tassie is football heartland- and they are treated like sh%t whiile up North, the riches go. cairns? no problem? Carrara ? Of course. Roof?

What a bunch or corrupt mustards these AFL cronies and their developer mates (and gambling) run!

Same thought, but I’m really concerned about the depth of talent and quality of games if Tassie and number 20 come into the competition. Not to mention rebuilding through drafts will be even harder.

Just look this year and the bottom eight teams. Creating a two tiered competition. Saints hoping to get off the bottom tier before the Tassie drafts come into play.

I don’t want Tasmania. 18 teams is too many. 16 was ideal.
I had a thought a couple of months ago. As AI and robots becomes more integrated into our life. Will more young people aim to become athletes as their career options are limited and we will have more spare time in general. I believe it is possible.

They just need to force merrett to stay. They will have nobody else at the club of any real value. Who do they market around, Gresham’s manicured luscious eyebrows?
They should just say no. Similar to what what Sydney did with that afl player.
