2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

So you just put it through first 2-3 days of trade period? Why do you think so many deals get done on deadline day?

I’m going to assume that Gold Coast probably are informing the Saints they want the trade done quick due to Petracca etc.

Gold Coast hold the power as he’s contracted, not sure a week would change that.

Mackie saying he spoke with sos on Saturday.

But what does this mean?

“Their intention is to bring him in”

I'd be stunned if Marshall doesn't get done. But if they are really going for Curnow then it's going to be late doors. They're going to have to offer something up though, as in get a good player to move to the Blues.

I also do wonder if we're locking Flanders away quickly to prevent the potential scenario that GC/Melb try and turn Flanders head to unlock the Petracca trade if it remains deadlocked? Combined with ranking Sam as an elite player, and not rating this draft - it makes sense you just get the deal done, particularly if you're working on multiple other moves

Also it's not pick 7, realistically it's pick 10
Possibly.

It could be about speed. It probably includes some strategy as well.

Clubs trading with each other are about swings and roundabouts. As supporters we often focus on an individual trade rather than the bigger picture.

'some second rounder' landed us Hugh Boxshall last year
You really are funny. You have a twitter account and you think you are a player and knows Allen and SOS's job better than them.

You do realise we aren't going to the draft except for Fincher and a speculator, but fire away mate it is very funny, you should be on Facebook :D:D

This is correct, supporters undervalue our trades in,and overvalue our trades out.

Pickering reckons 7 for Flanders is a very good deal for the Saints, also said that the posturing on Ryan was nothing more than the LM trying to get the best deal and it will get done

2015-2022 drafts (too early for last 2)

Pick 7
Hopper
Scrimshaw
Clark
B Smith
Young

E Hollands
Ward
Mackenzie (Cmac)

Pick 8
Ah Chee
Logue
Coff
Thomas
Serong
Cox
Amiss
J Clark

Pick 9
Weidemann
Brodie
Naughton
Jones
Henry (Academy)
Perkins
Gibcus
Ginbey

Pick 10
H McKay
Bowes
O'Brien
Blakey F/S
Green (Academy)
Reid
Erasmus (pick before Nas lol)
Pou

I'd probably only take the bolded ahead of Flanders. McKay and Naughton are up and down. Green and Blakey not even avilable to us. Smith a head case.

Serong and Young probably the pick of the crop.

A lot of B graders. Not too many complete misses though.

Hollands and Thomas busts cos they're dickheads. Coff an injury bust. Weidemann a bust I think?
Thank you very much for putting in the effort to fully prove my point! Much appreciated.

And this draft if shizenhousen from all reports, just as good a chance of landing a gun at 50. In addition, Flanders has proven his ability against the games elite. It is a no-brainer

Then that's even more reason for us to say - if you want Petracca that bad, then stump up a premium to satisfy us "quick" so you can focus on that deal

So no, they do not have all the power because if they hold Flanders, then they miss one of Petracca/Uwland/Patterson

Ainsworth for a token late pick maybe? Interesting to see how it plays out.
My gut feel is it is something bigger than a fringe player.

List spots are tight. We are filling specific holes with specific targets.

Paying pick 7 for Flanders allows Gold Coast to tell everyone that they aren’t being pushed around. Something I suspect they crave.

Team-wise, Nas has changed everything. And finding Hall and Beastshall (even if early), as well as Windy’s year and Hugo continuing to grow have also changed my optimism about our emerging midfield.
List- wise too. ( which I guess is what you’re saying)

Gubby on TR today - none of this would have happened had Nas not signed.

ALSO … a couple of other things they’re thinking about doing - “ a little surprise or two…” 😀

I wonder if Geelong offer two firsts (or whatever the deal is) for Marshall or Curnow and see who blinks first?

Loser gets scraps

If Carlton took two firsts for Curnow that would be about pick 25 this year and mid to late teens next year, they deserve to fold.
They would have to offer three firsts and they means Marshall stays. Think only deal that can be done is Marshall.

I reckon we might be doing another trade with Gold Coast and overpaying for Flanders will be factored in to that.

Just a hunch.

Gubby did indicate there may be more surprises to come.
If we were getting Ainsworth surely it would make more sense to tie it in with the Flanders deal.
