2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Think this will play out the same way as when we did it at the end of 2019. Best case scenario win a final or two.
Win a final or two all together or in 2026?

Without any of our trades, id be disappointed if our current group.of youngsters only won a final or two.

1/10 troll effort.

Even the Dogs supporters did it better.
I've always thought it's funny when people think the success of a sports team they follow reflects on their worth as an individual.

At least with Geelong, if you were to make that mistake, it would make some sense having been a great club for so long.

But the thing I don't get about the dogs is that they're still the second worst club in the history of the comp. How sad must your life be if going for the second worst team in history is such a big part of your identity.

As Gubby said "we think he's an elite player, simple as that"
Well yeah but doesn't mean you pay above market value

If we genuinely think he's worth pick 7 then sure

But I haven't seen anyone rate him close to that - surely we'd be able to get more in return if we really pushed for it even if its just a pick to get Aleer done

Straight swap wtf are we doing
Given it shouldn’t be that complicated to get Aleer and Ryan done, I don’t quite understand while we’re pushing through pick 7 for Flanders so quickly. Even if we acknowledge it as fair value, negotiation 101 isn’t about fair value, it’s about getting the best deal. This could only mean we’ve got something else in the pipeline that we need to free up time for?

Keeping it civil for when we acquire Ben King next year.

Draft picks are overrated. The amount of top 10 picks that haven’t worked out is crazy.

Our best players excluding Nas of recent times have either been from other clubs, Rookie draft, mid season draft or late picks (Sinclair, Wilkie, Marshall, Steele)

It's strange. Or when their teams ladder position makes them an expert on all things football and people who follow teams down the bottom must know nothing.

Every supporter group has informed fans and idiot fans, as evidenced by some who attempt to be clever when they visit this board.

Marshall gets done for two firsts at minimum, or a first plus a real player.

Again - two years left on a team friendly deal. We don't take unders to make a perenial contender better - there's just no way.

Ro has a role to play as we try get back to September.
What choice do we have? Now that he has said ‘I want Geelong’?

Gubby had a joint this morning 100%.

Hahaha, her we go, the melts over individual trades ( that hasn't even been done yet) and not looking at the trading as a whole.
Every effing year🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sorry SOS/Gubby (probably more like Gubby tbh), could you explain to me pls :)

I really don’t understand why people think pick 7 in a historically weak and compromised draft, for a 24yo who’s just about to enter his prime and was borderline elite in 2024 when he played in his preferred position and wasn’t playing injured like this season, is crazy. And he was in demand, there were 4 other teams who wanted him. I was told I was delusional and ‘thank god you’re not the list manager’ for suggesting it would get done for 7.

He’s contracted, if GC say they want 7 and aren’t willing to give up any picks in return (they need all the picks they can get to match bids) then that’s what we need to do. Same way people are saying we shouldn’t negotiate with Geelong and we make the demands because Marshall is contracted. I’m more than happy to part with 7 for a guy who’s going to make our midfield significantly better from day 1 next season.
