The latest on veteran Magpies, Crows and O’Brien ‘long way apart’ on new deal
Brisbane has handed free agent Brandon Starcevich an improved offer as he works back from concussion in a sign of the club’s confidence in his return to football.
The free agent is still 3-5 weeks from a return to football after a series of concussions sidelined him indefinitely but has begun training strongly after his symptoms eased.
This masthead reported that the Lions offered him a two-year deal but had paused talks after his head knock.
The Lions are now growing in confidence he can make a full return and are believed to have upped their offer as clubs like West Coast consider the quality Brisbane defender.

Is he the guy who ruck in the vfl against us recently?
Yes he did play in that game, I went to the game....not sure if I have the right guy but if so he looked very tall, mobile and imposing, clunked 1 or 2 good marks.

Ned Moyle played in that game as well, and I know what he looks like so I didn't mistake Knobel for him.

Looks like his old man. Can’t miss him.
Trent's kid? I was just assuming the name was a coincidence. Can't be many father/son rucks.

Was drafted by Fremantle a couple of years ago. Delisted last year, with a promise to redraft in the rookie draft. Was out training with the Fremantle squad when the rookie was draft was on. Coach walks out to tell Max that Gold Coast just cut their grass and picked him up with their first pick in the rookie draft.

From memory (not always a reliable option from me) ..... Fort only played the first half, Zac & Gallop rucked the second half.

Worth noting when evaluating the above stats.

It really was about Knobel as posters were unsure how he went.
I just threw in Fort because he played. I knew he came off at some stage being emergency for the AFL.
I was going to include Gallop & ZZ to cover all the rucks

Bit of a left field thought, but what if we didn't go for O Allen, but instead looked at an attacking ruck like TDK and threw the sink at him? He's a good age profile, can sneak forward and turn games, could be an interesting fit. This is considering our midfield will be quite stacked outside of ruck options in the next few years.

Edit. I mean TDK

I think he wants and will get too big an offer from a Melbourne based club eg. St Kilda for us to even contemplate going for him.

We don't have much of a sink available to throw

Do we have any list spots we can use in the MSD?,Possibly Linc?
Linc was an essential and integral component of our club getting to current status. It was cruel that he missed out on a premiership. Shutting his door to even a remote chance would be un-Fagan like. What position are we in desperate need to fill with a MS pick? Is there a player out there that could come in and make us better?

I'd like to think that we would choose culture over a speculative pick this year. Pass.

I don't think it's a good idea. We won't have that much money to play with after re-signing everybody and the priority should be a forward who can occasionally ruck, not a ruck that can occasionally play forward. We have Henry Smith who has shown signs of being able to step as our future ruck, yes to a lesser quality than TDK but also for a much lower contract.

Taking away Linc's last chance at a premiership is bad karma, especially when we'd have the second-last pick in the first round anyway. There will be plenty of good young prospects available at the end of the year.

We have too many waiting in the wings already for opportunity. Only potential issue at the moment is a good key forward who can ruck. I doubt we'll find decent options in MSD for that one so I'd let it go and wait until trade / draft end of this year.

I agree we have quite a few vfl players who are developing. If there was a reasonable quality forward ruck lurking in a bush league that no other club had identified I guess the club might be tempted. But Linc is more likely to be afl ready for the finals this year, than pick 17 in the mid season draft.

And as you say, there are the positive cultural issues to consider.

Does Joe Danihers backyard count as a bush league?
