Just spitballing as always but with the names rumoured to be on the trade table I thought I'd fill in some time. Had heard a lot about Chesser's month of reincarnation so went back to check out all the tape today and holy crap he can play. Coming from a long way back after injury but he's got plenty of talent if he can stay on the park.

Unfortunately with us likely finishing 11th after what should be a comfortable win vs the Bombers we'll end up with a compo pick right in line with a Dean bid so I can only assume we'll be looking at trading it out for players.

Would love a better small forward option to fill that gap than Ryan and Rosas but there's absolutely bugger all out there.

Out
TDK > Band 1 Compo (Pick 9)
JSOS > Band 2/3 Compo (27)

2027 and onwards the team would be beautifully balanced. Somehow nab Neocleous or Butler with our 2026 first + Cody and I'd be dreaming of a flag in the late 2020s.

Lachie Cowan - Harry O'Farrell - Judd McVee

Ollie Hollands - Cody Walker - Campbell Chesser
Hudson O'Keefe - Jagga Smith - Sam Walsh

Adam Cerra - Matthew Carroll - Elijah Hollands - Malcolm Rosas

This. They haven’t been able to get it right and hence he looks frustrated.
I felt Young was allowed to play that deep defender role last week and it therefore released / allowed Weits to get up the ground and intercept. IMO - this is a trust issue.
Weitering looks at #33 he doesn't see Lewis Young. He sees NotJones. This is the issue.

Which is on Weitering to be fair. Jones ain't coming back. Deal with it and move on.
Haynes has been every bit as good as Jones ever was.
Weiters hasn't been terrible this year has just shown himself up against what we are used to. But he does seem to be sulking it up a lot!
Think a few of these guys need some fresh voices and a bit of a reset.
Head of football appointment and our new assistant coaches can't be named soon enough.

Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera has reportedly re-signed with the Saints on a deal worth around $2 million per season for two years. If the reported figures for TDK are accurate, that would see the Saints committing close to $3.8 million annually (roughly 24% of the total salary cap) to just two players. Surely the $1.8 million figure for TDK can’t be right?
The cap goes up next year again, so the figures would amount to around 20% of the TPP - if reflective of expected payments and appearances - but it does seem ridiculous either way.

This new school of thought of 1 or 2 superstars, then a chunk of stars, and the rest of this list is foot soldiers to support the system and youngsters to develop over time is a bit detached from reality.

Teams can and will shut 3 or 4 players on the opposition every week, and they'll spend the time and money breaking down systems and recruiting defensive coaches and players to make it happen if they're affordable. Just feel like this kind of thinking will fritter away recruitment opportunities from St Kilda faster than bringing TDK in can create them.

If it's just a front-loaded deal and he's at $1.4m average over the length of the contract, then it's far more reasonable and just exploiting our salary cap.
That contract doesn’t get near enough criticism.

5 year deal after doing 5x hamstrings in 12 months is nuts.
He played through a fair bit of the issues, it wasn't just him tearing his hamstrings and/or scar tissue 5 times.

If they have banked maximum salary they can over pay an extra million or so, so nearer 2.7 on two players in terms of cap hit.

Doable when you consider the balance of their list.
