You are barking up the wrong tree with me.

If the staff member was on 75k, leaving for a promotion to go to 95k or so, then no, I would not walk them or be a bit cold. It's life changing, will really help them, and they owe me nothing. But we are talking about a high level employee who we are offering over 1 million per year, leaving for not that much more in the grand scheme of things. I don't want to go into what I earn but the difference between 1.2 and 1.7 barely moves the needle.

So yeh, if my employee was upper management let's say C level executive and they left for more money, you bet your arse they would be walked on the spot.

Let's not start pretending TDK hasn't been looked after, and would have been continued to be looked after. You are either out or in.....Ps, NAS stayed at STkilda after his crazy godfather offer from Adelaide, what's the difference?

If you want to leave for the money fine, go, but you go on the spot and we owe him ZERO

That extra 500k per year over a short period of time 100% moves the needle. He wont get another contract in afl at this level again.

C level don’t get walked in that fashion bud, they have an obligation serve out notice period. Or they are put on gardening leave. Only walked if they have done something that warrants it. Leaving for more money is not one.

You’re a hard task manager, coming across very successful and more than likely are well loved by your shareholders.

And that’s all cool. You do you.

Last question, what’s your thoughts on egg man possibly returning?

I can absolutely tell you if my GM left to a competitor for a 25% pay increase she would be walked on the spot.

Ps, the difference between 50 and 60k per week isn't as big as it seems.

PPS, my shareholders are my long term loyal staff. They all get a piece as a reward :thumbsu:

I wouldnt be picking him then.

Edit: But unfortunately I think we will. Voss mentioned they will prioritise players that didn't play VFL and that's McGovern, White and Pittonet. Can't see Pittonet coming in so leaves the other two for Fogarty/Lord. Stuff the stupid VFL scheduling.

Neither would I.

I reckon GW wouldn't be concerned about telling him that he hasn't really lived up to the expectations of his initial contract. So another year on that money really isn't justified.

If you want to stay next year, we'll negotiate a fairer contract.

Think people are overstating what we could possibly get for Charlie.
No chance we're getting 2 first rounders + a player.

I posted previously, I've heard from a good source that Sydney is coming hard for him and that their first rounder + Logan McDonald was being floated.

McDonald doesn't do it for me, but i'd suggest there would be a nice B+ grader we could get along with their first rounder.

Clubs know Charlie's knee is cooked. 3 knee operations in 1 season.
McDonald is a hack. Too soft to make it as a spearhead KPF.

Simple solution when a star is under contract, if clubs don't pay us an absurd amount to get him out of Carlton... Then he stays at Carlton.

We hold the power in this negotiation.

I'd rather just not have him - even for peanuts.
There is just no way you can rely on any sort of form. You put him in, he burns you when you need him.

Some very distinctive “clues” as to our possible/probable outgoings from the list are seemingly being broadcast.

We may well have a bank of five empty lockers in a couple/few weeks. Rumblings of our no. 13 Acres having interest from West Coast put him in that mix along with 11. De Koning, 12. McGovern, 14. Fantasia and the already departed number 15 Sam Docherty. Add in the seemingly inevitable Silvagni departure and our list vacancies start to open up.

Thinking questions still to be answered on the uncontracted Lemmey and Cincotta along with contracted Elijah Hollands, Binns and Boyd (thinking we may have to wear the cost of delisting a contracted player). The conjecture over Charlie is likely to remain until the trade window is past, however it looks pretty clear rumblings around Harry and Walshy have little foundation.

I would be surprised if we do not promote rookies Cooper Lord and Hudson O’Keeffe at a minimum, probably Matt Carroll as well, leaving Charleson, White, Evans and Young and perhaps two vacancies on our currently over subscribed rookie list.

500k pa barely moves the needle?

I don't know what you do. But anyone should know that is a life changing difference for an athlete who can only expect that in one contract, which is less than 10 years long.

Anyway, Tom is more equivalent to a high level engineer or operations type who needs to do a handover than an executive who is replaceable immediately by their most senior direct report

Guessing at the list changes

Out:

1. Jack Silvagni (End of 1st Comp)
11. Mitch McGovern (3rd round trade)
12. Tom De Koning (After 1st pick Comp)
13. Blake Acres (3rd round trade)
14. Orazio Fantasia -delist
15. Sam Docherty - retire
34. Rob Monahan - delist
39. Alex Cincotta -delist

In:

Khamis (2nd or 3rd round trade)
Florent (3rd round trade)
Dean - F/S 1st Round
Ison - NGA 3rd round
Gresham - NGA rookie Cat B
ND Draft pick

What ever happened with Cincotta? Seemed to be a lock, as a tagger/forward then got injured and never returned. Purely due to the injury or other factors?

You would think Khamis is Charlie back up ?

If we don’t trade Charlie there is no spot for Khamis unless we swing Kemp (or Khamis) back

Our issue is still quality depth and players in the middle age bracket. If we do move on Curnow, I'd be trying to get Campbell, Hayward and Florent. All 3 improve us and net us 3 solid B graders. Florent the steak knives, and we'd need a swap of picks to make it worth our while (either our Brisbane second for their first, or our future second for their future first).

Firmly believe we have enough A graders. We need to raise our floor and move past the fringe players we've had to play all season.

Khamis is taking McGovern's role as swing man

What ever happened with Cincotta? Seemed to be a lock, as a tagger/forward then got injured and never returned. Purely due to the injury or other factors?
Not cast in stone that Cinc would be cut, but he has had some debilitating injuries and seems to be still hindered. He is no spring chicken turning 29 in December and requires elevation from the rookie list to stay around. He is a warrior and absolutely ticks boxes on effort and dedication, but sometimes that isn’t enough.

We are oversubscribed on our rookie list, when likely we will want to make space for one or two NGA options or perhaps the likes of developing ruck Flynn Riley. There are also options from the state league who could present. For mine we are likely to prioritise Lord, O’Keeffe, Carroll, Evans, White, promising Charleson and Flynn Young over Cinc.

The rise of Cooper Lord as a run with player more so takes us past Cincotta for mine after he has missed big chunks of multiple seasons.

If Dylan Shiel is prepared to play for $400k is he worth a 2 year contract?

Random musing - with NWM taking a massive chunk of St Kilda's cap, reports starting to filter out now that their offer to TDK is lower than reported, TDK meeting with Wright this week...I wonder if the wheel might be turning back to TDK staying at Carlton. And I wonder...if he was to stay, would that incentivise us a little more to consider trading Charlie?

Keeping TDK, and Jack likely going on a much lower contract (securing a less valuable compo pick) would probably make chasing a free agent or two more viable, compared to doing so with TDK's compo at risk of being watered down.

Keeping TDK means we don't need to go chasing a ruck, and could continue to play HOK and (if he remains) Lemmey as the 2nd KPF options alongside Harry. Not to mention Lewis Young who looks marginally more effective up forward, and Kemp expected to return (though unclear how ready he'll be).

Keeping TDK means we wouldn't be getting the top 10 compo pick, and as such would be in a somewhat precarious position in regards to matching an early bid for Dean.

Hypothetically:
- TDK stays, no compo
- JSOS goes, Band 3 compo (Pick 26)
- Acres and McGovern go to WC for Picks 32 and 50
- Charlie goes to Sydney for Picks 9, 27 and Braeden Campbell (happy to get more, but I reckon this is a somewhat reasonable compromise between the "Gulden or GTFO" and "He's old and has dodgy knees" positions)
- Rosas comes over as a cheap free agent

Draft Hand: 9, 26, 27, 32, 34, 43, 50

I'd love to move higher up the top 10, but I don't think there are going to be many clubs there looking to trade down. Maybe a live trade with GC on the night - Picks 9, 32 and 34 for Pick 6? ~450pt gain for them, we get ahead of the Dean bid?

So call it Picks 6, 26, 27, 43 and 50.

Pick 26 and 27, even if they remain where they are, will cover a bid for Dean at Pick 10. They should slip in a few spots though with early bid matching before the Dean bid.
Picks 43 and 50 will come in a fair bit with all the bid matching, and should cover a bid on Ison in the back half of the second round.
Pick 6 could get us a look at Lindsay, Schubert, Greeves, Grlj, Cumming as varied options.

OUT: Curnow, JSOS, Acres, McGovern
IN: Campbell, Dean, Ison, Rosas, Pick 6

Biggest concern probably not addressing the short term KPD stocks, with JSOS and Gov both exiting, HOF out for the year, and Dean probably needing a good bit of development time. Who knows though, there have been a few KPD's who have been able to come in and do a job in their debut year, and Dean has the advantage of having been integrated at the club for a long while already.

Also hasn't added as much in the way of raw foot-speed as I'd like, but Campbell's ball use, Jagga's instinct and class, and whatever we can get at Pick 6 maybe goes some way to off-setting that.

FB: Newman, Weitering, Haynes
HB: Campbell, Cowan, Carroll
C: Hollands, Cripps, Walsh
R: TDK, Hewett, Jagga
HF: Cottrell, O'Keeffe, Hollands*
FF: Moir, McKay, Williams
I/C: Saad, Cerra, Lord, Evans

Fringe (if they stay): Motlop, Durdin, Rosas, Binns, Fogarty, Pittonet, Lemmey, Young, Young, Wilson, Boyd, White, Cincotta
Developing: Pick 6, Campo, Campo, Dean, Charleson, Ison, Monahan, Duffy
Wait and See: Kemp
Ruled out: O'Farrell
