I hope by end of pre season we are seeing some names like HOK, Moir, Motlop, Smith, Dean, Chesser, Wilson, Ison, Charleson, Campo twins etc as Best 23.

The side you have named is the staus quo but over next 12 months we need to go past names like Young, Saad, Haynes, Newman, Acres etc.

We need the next gen stepping up and getting games and pushing others out based on form
That round one side is going to be fascinating, Soapy. The Assistant Coach structure has clearly been established to fast track youth. And the coaches who have been interviewed so far have really emphasised our younger players and their development.

I’d be surprised if Jagga and Dean are not in our round one side. But I would also be surprised if a few of the other young players don’t join them.

Charlie had given up early and wanted out from start of year. Relationship with Voss was strained because Charlie simply didn't care or try. This was actually an issue amongst playing group as Charlie had been given everything by coaches and club and still gave up
what i heard, from non football sources, he was pretty open about it

There’s a lot of potential there but they need a game plan that will allow them to link up and run. If it’s another year of kicking long to the contest it won’t matter how many good runners we have.
I thought our VFL side did have this game style, but it seemed to be removed if any player was promoted to the next level.

It's how we play until the pressure kicks in and the players switch to self-preservation
The last time the senior team displayed any run and gun was that 12 from 13 games winning streak after finding ouselves 15th half way through the 2023 bye period.
Looked like we were let off the leash.

Have it good authority Charlie stays if Voss was replaced end of this year.
If
Voss is sacked mid season next year and we've lost them both? Would be the most Carlton thing ever.

Put simply, there is ALOT riding on the first 8 games in 2026.
If that's his attitude, he's no loss.
Of he & H, it's him that was pandered to, yet he still cracked the sads. **** him.

Coaches worked out how to counter the forward handball from the mark stategy (run and gun). We weren't the only team using it.

Nothing beats good old fashinoned keeping possession when you can and winning contests when you can't.

Shows a level of disrespect to the club

That GWS game in 2024 was a real turning point - wonder if it started all the way back then

He was actually pretty lazy all through 2024 too. Played a few exceptional quarters, but went missing alot. Nobody payed much attention because we were winning. Nowhere near the level of 2022-23.

Speaks to his talent, that he still kicked as many goals as he did.

I was told early in year that Voss's relationship with Senior players and group had really deteriorated. Game plan etc

Charlie had given up early and wanted out from start of year. Relationship with Voss was strained because Charlie simply didn't care or try. This was actually an issue amongst playing group as Charlie had been given everything by coaches and club and still gave up

The fact Wright has backed Voss says to me it is still repairable and maybe moving people like Charlie wil help that? I was told we were happy to move Charlie on and just played game to maximise trade which we did

I am not a fan of Voss and doubt his coaching but I squarely put Charlie issues on Charlie (although Voss pandered to him for too long). He sooked it when things didn't go his way and it angered a lot of players including our leaders

I hope that by moving Charlie on and Voss hopefully treating everyone by same standards things will really improve. As I have stated many times this is my main concern. IMO we cannot improve unless these things are sorted
So why was Charlie appointed as co-Vice Captain of the club? I find this rather perplexing, especially since the appointment was made quite late in the piece, ie. February last year?

It now seems the breakdown between the coach and other senior leaders came little more than 12 months later. Was this poor judgement by Voss or a last-ditch attempt to maketh the man, thinking he might grow up if given this responsibility?

Does anyone else have a concern that our captain may not have have given a strong response to Charlie openly wanting out? Or has anyone heard anything about how Cripps handled the situation this year?
I have no info on this but have a concern that with the rumours of Cripps being open to a move to WA (if it is in the best interests of the club) that he may not have challenged Charlie on this.

He will just back the coach with whatever decision he makes. Has to be seen as united, otherwise its see ya later.

Not really. Nobody knows how he responded. And I personally think the open to moving to WA stuff is garbage.

The Cripps behind the scenes is very different to the public person. He plays the game in the media

Behind closed doors he will have a go if needed. Not sure what has happened with Charlie but I have no doubt that he would have said his bit.

Cripps isn't going back to WA as a player and has never wanted to. His focus is a Carlton flag

Its a tough one.

On one hand you dont want the tail wagging the dog. But if the coach is really rubbish, and players are providing feedback/resistence, it's justified. You cant just label it player problem.

On the other hand theres a right and wrong way to provide feedback. Say what you need to the decision makers, but in training and on game day give your all. If you cant accept the direction ask for a trade at the end of the year.

There is never an excuse for sooking it up and not trying which is what we saw from Charlie and speaks to his leadership/character.
The lack of second efforts showed me that Charlie had checked out. At first I thought injuries but, that excuse waned as the season progressed. Why? I'm not close enough to know by any means.

Didn't want him to go but, happy he is gone if that makes sense? We needed to balance the cap and list.

I'm not sure our list has achieved enough to be questioning the coach. We had a rubbish season, they happen. We learn and move on. Wright is brutal and will assess when the time is right, regardless of the look. I think there is a genuine lack of depth in the coaching ranks across the league so, sacking Voss may not be as easy as it sounds.

I like the more balanced list with more flexible options and love the Hayward acquisition. Having said that we are still quite a distance off the top end sides. We need to bulk up the bodies, add tools to their kit bag and build an internal confidence that we carried in late '23/early '24.

Some end of season success against cream puffs, I was at the Port game and drank more Rums than tackles laid, is just a sugar hit that carries little if any currency in '26.

So many questions:

Will Smith, Walker, Dean, Campos etc come on quickly enough to have success with the Weitering, Cripps, Mckay, Walsh types?

Will our list changes realise success before the game makes another stylistic change, or be flexible enough to change with it, whatever that may be?

Can Harry hold up as a first option and not get invisible own head?

Will Cripps be some semblance of the physical presence of the past and, if so, will the leg speed and ball use surrounding him be sufficient to resemble modern footy?

Are we actually brave enough to go past Saad who looked awful in '25?

Lastly, will we as a supporters base, membership group and vested interest group stfu long enough to allow those we place confidence in to do their jobs with brutal, public persecution?

We will be bad before we come good, potentially quite quickly

I thought our VFL side did have this game style, but it seemed to be removed if any player was promoted to the next level.
Thought we had decent ball movement when we won from stoppages or controlled possession but, where clearly out positioned and poorly structured behind the ball when the opposition moved forward…

Charleson has a calmness and poise which is impressive for such a young player. Has the tools

Wilson I see as more a late developer. Has all the tools and some pace but just needs to adjust. I thought his last game of the year he really showed his talent

At their age they all adapt at different rates.

I’m very hopeful on both
His positioning and reading of the game impresses me. Will fit into a well structured AFL side. One of those guys who is just there for an outlet all the time.

I don't know how he's handled thing behind closed doors but there didn't seem to be any strong statements from him (that I recall). Seemed to be pussyfooting around a bit.

Considering Tigers are a young side, round one would be an opportune time to give capable kids a go.
