With getting M.Whitlock with our F1st pick could Bradys work actually pay off...

I could've lived with getting Mattlock, Jacklock and the Tigers R2 or keeping the F1. But what's done is done.
If we kept our F1, it would've given us a chance to slide back in the order (may not have been a big trade haul given the draft) and take one of the better kpf's or small fwd that we might not get access to at 20/21.

But looking at next years draft somebody like Will Malady at 190cm might keep growing a bit. He's impressed as a 17 yo for VC, so perhaps that comes into recruiters minds this year and we add just one tall this year (I'd take a kpf with 20/21 this year and kpd late to replace Corr), then another next year along with McCartney hopefully.

That's actually not an easy question to answer, in this hypothetical situation there are many who will have a different view, as there is no right or wrong, I will trade my thoughts on the answer. First of all, last years draft was a lot stronger than this years class, that doesn't mean there are not golden nuggets out there.

In the second round there will be some players who could be a steal so not having our first pick is not a problem, on the contrary, we worked it to our advantage. Secondly, one has to consider the position they play, obviously midfielders usually dominate the early first round unless you have someone who is a special talent, now since recruiters "love" players that can play different positions {versatile} then one would think because there is a lack of talent in this years draft that is highly rated {I'm mainly referencing talls} {yes I know Cooper can play ruck as well as key forward} same applies to Cody Curtain, so lets in a fun way try to compare them.

Willem Duursma can play both ends, even maybe stints in the middle, though he's regarded as a intercepting defender he does have qualities that mirror Matt, the only difference is that Willem is around 191cm and Matt is your more key position player at 197cm, though at times he does play taller than what his height implies.

Matt I feel can be more explosive, when he becomes ready and a lot more of a natural key defender or key forward whereas Willem whilst he can play forward at the moment, his work in defence is probably more dangerous as a sweeper of that half back role where clubs are attacking from.

So, while he is highly rated I've got to slot Matt in front of Willem and generally in this years draft Willem is anywhere from pick 1 to pick pick 5 this may change up until the end of the championships So taking that into account + who's actually available to clubs as far as the top draft hopefuls this year { I have not included boys that are tied to academies } I have Matt at around pick #4 in the open pool, that's my take anyway, a bit of fun to think about for people to ponder.

So what you are saying Trout is that it's not the worst deal in history and will not come back to bite us trading our 1st and getting Matt and Calab like some on here think. In your opinion at the moment.

Yeah i agree i think it was quite an astute deal even without his twin ever getting to us which i think probably wont happen. Hope i am wrong though.

That is my take on it, as always we wont know for several years but I would be shocked in future years to find out that our trading that pick will haunt us, it may well be that its the opposite. While Caleb has made a few mistakes, don't you find it interesting that our team balance and defence has improved and whether some people will admit it or not makes no difference, the senior players we brought in have helped us, the kids are getting more confidence and the game plan is slowly being utilized.

This draft crop is definitely not as exciting as last years crop. I'm a little underwhelmed.
To me Dyson Sharp just looks like the best player. Willem and Duff Man behind him in the top 4.
I think it's fair to assess that Mattlock is a better prospect than any of the talls in this draft.
Cody Curtin is a 200cm monster swingman/ruck, but not the same level of ball use and IQ as Matt imo.
Ludowyke you may be right on Scout being rated not so highly by year end.
Right now Schubert looks like one who might rise up the boards vs Archie and maybe even Cody.
Duff-Tytler to me is similar to what we have in Goady and he's likely gone 1 or 2 anyway.

I'd rate Matt above Willem in terms of talent (ball use, IQ), but not quite ahead of Dyson Sharp imo.
Someone like Josh Lindsay could've been intriguing for us as that running wing/mid/hbf in the top 6.
I would've preferred keeping the F1 to either take a Josh Lindsay or have the ability to slide back in the order, but what's done is done in terms of trading the F1.

Interested to see who goes in the top 19 "best available" before our picks.
There should be a wing/hbf out of LaRey, Dahlitz, Barker or Farrow at our picks.
A tall like Ah-Mu, Murray or Hetherton (back injury a concern though) might be there at our picks if we want a tall.
Teams will have different needs as well. Ludowyke spent time with Saints, so would they take him at no. 5?
I would think they take a midfielder with pick 5 or slide to get another pick before 41.
Anyway, fascinating to see what we do and what other teams pick before us.

I doubt it. I think he'd be top 10 at the very least, maybe even top 5.

Lachie Dovaston and Aiden Schubert need to chill a bit. The two of them were probably realistic options at our picks in the twenties but that’s quickly changing.

Schubert now probably the premier tall in the juniors behind Duff-Tytler.

Dovaston won the game for Eastern against Geelong off his own boot on the weekend kicked 5.0 from 20 disposals, 3 marks and 6 tackles.

He's one of three players that I would contemplate on doing just that, however I think in the open draft he will be gone quite early, if not would be very interesting. I very much doubt we trade back in for reasons I've outlined in earlier posts but you never know, two years of future firsts are available to use if we want and the right player is there but I think we will keep them for possible trading & free agency period, mature players.

Yep. Looking unlikely they aren't in the top 10-15. But equally could mean a few other players drop to our picks.
Moving up to WCE or GC teens pick would give us a better chance, providing no teams offer their F1 or have a higher R2 and/or F2 than us to offer to move up the order.
