Is that why burgess hasn’t been given his marching orders? Waiting on Tex.
Probably, but Burgess should be delisted regardless

It's pretty crazy how many players we've a invested a significant number of games into during this era that haven't worked out.

Jones 97* games
Murphy 120 games
McHenry 70 games
Schoenberg 62 games
Berry 76* games
Sholl 79* games
Himmelberg 50 games
Hamill 45 games
Rowe 36 games

Pedlar (39* games) and Cook (30*) are unfortunately headed that way too.

Also noting that several of these guys debuted under Pyke.
I’d give jones another 3 games just in case his kids become guns .

Wouldn’t surprise me if we’ve told Tex we want to play a different structure but if he’s up for it would love him in the list as next man up

Far better back up than burgess for next year (and it’s not like burgess is a legitimate longer term option so tex just better list option in general)

Tex probably digesting that option and likely retires as a result

I think we're just not wanting to be seen as the bad guy. Don't want any whiff of a 300 game club legend being forced out or put in a corner

Hoping he reaches the right decision himself.

If he doesn't and wants to try one more year it's only Burgess.

My head says retiring Tex is the right decision.

My heart says no I'm not ready.

Didn't get the opportunity to send him off as I thought we'd win at least one final and go around again for one more year. Losing the two has probably meant the club realises it needs a different dynamic to take the next step.

Yeah, we should be the realist, it is unfair on a club legend to make him decide about being best 22 or a spare. If that is where our mindset is, we should be the ones to say "maybe you should retire mate"

Why would Taylor only get a one-year deal? Player, or list management decision? Any inklings??

Most likely because he hasn't cemented his spot as an irreplaceable player and is very much not a certain 23 selection. Which means his list spot is up for grabs if we get better players.

Can delisted free agents be signed but to the rookie list pre national and rookie draft?? Or only to the main list?

They can only be signed to the main list until the rookie draft.

If no club signs the player as a DFA you can then select them as a rookie in the rookie draft.

That's how Gold Coast got caught out with Hugh Greenwood.

They delisted him and planned to rookie him, but because they had to wait until the draft to do it North approached him with a better deal so he signed with North to their main list as a DFA.

Sure they got caught out so to speak but was it a positive or a negative? Cmon they had Rory Atkins on books too.

Pedlar has it. Big game player vibes. Need to use him better

Schoenberg and Cook are the only others that at one point maybe looked like they could be long term best 22

Well you have to ask the question on the back of McHenry stating some players in Nick's structure are not meant to get the ball whether Pedlar has been used in that role.

Bond 1 yr is interesting. Initially I thought it must be player driven - "I rate my ability in the midfield and I think by the end of next year I should be able to be well embedded and get myself a decent pay or another club will give me that" or a mentality to that effect.

Looking at the list above tho I think it might be club driven since even though we have a lot coming out of contract there's a lot we probably wanna keep and remembering we're required to do three list changes. Only Tex is highly probable to go next yr if he signs on this yr. Welsh is probably next but is at most 50% chance of going. Others might say Jones and Sholl should go (and I can see a case for it) but we're a young side and we need to have some experienced depth. So I can see this as a contributor to Taylors one year deal. Probably a win win win, keeps Taylor on edge, allows him a good pay upgrade if he can get a bit fitter and excel in the midfield and leaves us with list management flexibility.

Club want players to be seen to making the decision to retire .....you know "spend more time with the young family" 🤣

Saves any backlash / discussion from supporters / media

Reality is, they've been told they won't get another Contract ....so the player says "ok, I'll retire"

It's a rarity for players to actually make the call

I think that is exactly what happened. Nick's has indicated publically we need to have a more dynamic forward line and also mentioned how easy teams ran the ball out of our defence to set up scoring opportunities in the finals which both point to a different look forward line.

I don't have any issues with the club leaving it up to Tex. You wouldn't do it for just anyone, but you do for your club legends.

He likely knows the role he's going to play next year and is working out whether he wants to do it. If we are actually recruiting Ah Chee then we'll have to go smaller in the forward 50 and the one guy who falls out is Tex.

No big deal.

Not really, hes VERY good at that level.

Maybe Liam McBean but that would be shuffling deck chairs.
More so that Burgess can't step up to the next level, we know that already. But if you bring in someone else that dominates the lower level they may be able to take the next step. We already know Burgess can't

Its tough with key forwards though, not many have come from the 2nd tier and been able to make the step up.

Absolutely not against us having a crack at it though

Yeah I agree but if we try and fail, it's already what we have now, but if we can find another podsiadly type, got to be worth the gamble.
