There's a huge standing water puddle on the inside of turn 2.

Epic if Oscar could hang Lando out to dry into at the start haha
Oscar gets the better start and holds the inside line through 1, giving him the wider/faster dry line through 2 and Lando slots in behind, pulling out to defend Max into turn 3. Lando is slow through 3/4/5 from being offline, but fast enough to keep Max at bat through the rest of the lap whilst Oscar pushes out to a 2-3 second gap. Max and Lando then fight for the next 15 laps until first pit whilst Oscar gradually edges further and further in front.

....

Or more realistically, we start behind the Safety Car due to threat of rain, Lando nails the restart and Oscar gets wheelspin coming off the last turn - losing 2nd to Max down the straight and then gets stuck fighting in traffic until his tyres go off whilst Lando clears out up the road. McLaren pit Oscar early (no tires) and he gets stuck just behind the Williams, who - whilst off the pace of the leaders are fast enough to defend Oscar and are going long. Lando pits, comes out in front of 3rd and cruises relatively untroubled to a 20 second win over Max. Oscar finally gets past late in the race and rapidly closes on Max, but is unable to find a way past - finishing 3rd.

I will cry if we start behind the safety car at the first race of the year…..

The rain band looks like it is slowly shifting east while sliding down from the North West.
The Melbourne airport aviation forecast (which is updated hourly) currently says showers of light rain all day, and these heavier shower periods ending "at" 3pm. (Moorabbin says 2pm)

All in all, I reckon it will slowly ease up, but how much water stays on the track and surroundings is another matter..

Edit: and with that, Supercars race suspended due to amount of water

Don't think they're gonna get the F2 race to start in an hour either :(

Will they cancel the F1 race if it doesn’t stop raining?

Not really up to date with modern day rules etc.
They can & do race in the rain. Ultimately it's up to the race director to decide whether or not it's safe to proceed.

Note that the Race Director's call is based on several factors, including whether or not the flag marshalls have enough visibility to see & respond to any incidents which occur in their sectors. If they can't see all the way from their flag point to the next flag point, due to spray being kicked up by the cars, then the race will be red flagged.

Once the race has officially started, there is a maximum time for it to be completed - I think it's either 3 or 4 hours. They can, however, delay the start of the race (though they can't wait until tomorrow to hold the race).

The best example of a race being washed out is Spa 2023.

2 hours of race time over a 3 hour period (was 4 hours up until 2021)

The F1 cars have 2 type of wet weather tyres - intermediates and full wets. However, the full wets are completely useless and are almost never used - the full wets do a great job of clearing the water, but they produce so much spray that the race is inevitably red flagged as soon as they are put on the cars.

If you want to watch a wet F1 race that was allowed to proceed, I highly recommend watching the 2024 Brazil GP. Watch that and you'll soon see why everyone is talking about Max dominating in the rain.
Started 17th and went bang!

He is a good wet weather driver hence he has come into race favourite just about with the bookies.

Why have those beautiful chunky wet weathers then. [emoji15][emoji846]

Good question.

These guys want to share the risk and none of them have courage to go with full wets. Some pea brain will use inters to attempt to gain an advantage, then F up and the safety car come out of it's red flagged. Similar to Sainz at Suzuka however many years ago.
