and so we shouldn't, makes me sick to to the stomach that we are haggling with club servants like the likes of Elliott and Mihocek to satisfy a player who has had one good year ( a injury hit good year at that )
At the end of the 2010 premiership era people were sick to their stomachs that club veterans chose to extract as much pay from our club limiting our ability to challenge.

Do we want to overpay our veterans, or do we want to top up our list to keep challenging?

Perfect. You could look at this in two ways.

If he stays healthy and keeps his form from this year, this could be a bargain considering it's a position we desperately need.

If he has a couple of set backs, it's not like we paid overs for him.

I'd be shocked if players are disgruntled with the value of this contract, considering he's an UFA. I'm sure that d**khead Ralph will say otherwise.

how are they being over paid?

ive been lead to believe Pendlebury and Sidebottom and to a lesser extent Howe are on well below what they were on.
Elliott and Mihocek are our 2 best forwards, and are we going to piss them off for a guy who has played one good year at the age of 27?

If Elliott leaves it wouldn't be about his contract offer, it's a lifestyle choice and family. His current 2 year deal on the table is apparently a fair one for a player turning 33 next year....

he is more than just that, our top goal scorer
he is not a run of the mill half back flanker turning 33, i can tell you that

I understand the reality but loyalty is a two way street.
I don't know how many times I have seen people crowing about how we go so and so for unders.
DC is one example.
Then splashing cash to poach other players.
You only hear about it because Ralph won't stop talking about our club & players. There are 17 other clubs all having to satisfy their players with the same salary cap & list spots, yet the media won't stop reporting on us for clicks.

I wouldn't call $650,000 as splashing cash when other clubs are offering multi million dollar deals to get players across to their team.

No offence Jen. But these clickbait articles serve no purpose but to outage Collingwood fans and are achieving it…

A quick read and you find this

“I’m not sure what the Gold Coast offer would be, because it hasn’t got to that.”

So there’s not even an offer? And there’s a whole article on it?

I suspect it’s both. Elliott will be an AA this year and deserves a reward, but at the same time if he leaves I doubt it will have anything to do with money. His is legitimately the most complicated situation of all our uncontracted players. My gut feel is we’d know by now if a move north was a goer and he probably makes the move post career, but I wouldn’t begrudge him either way.

I realise that, l'm not referring to his ability, l'm referring to his age, and this will be his last contract, and for the next 2 years, the deal is reportedly a good one. So l don't think the club is shafting him in anyway.
The hesitation for him is whether to continue living in Melbourne or move to his property in Qld, and live a healthier lifestyle with his family up there as well....

Brisbane will be almost unstoppable next year but with Elliott it becomes frightening

Makes sense to me. We wanted Morris. It had to be Hine. Fly isn't watching much of the kids. He's reading the specs and watching some footage. The specs are undersized and a bit slow. And the footage isn't anything special either. I think it takes a recruiter to watch him enough to realise that he's super smart and reads the ball in the air better than anyone else around.
That makes me feel even worse

Exactly. So basically Edmund is thinking the Suns will be a good fit for Elliott because he looked at Brisbane in 2021....

I had a horrible dream last night that Houston had requested a trade due to the fact that he is not fitting in well in the Collingwood side.
I wonder how he must feel about the article about him in the Age this week.
2026
  • will have JSOS
  • will know our system
  • may get midfield time

I wouldn't have a clue what Jamie is thinking, however I would have thought considering a move to sunnier weathers as a 28yo (back in 2021) might have been appealing with a lot of years left in his career

At this stage of his career (and he's still only 32 but I guess with a more banged-up body than the average 32yo AFL player) he's got maybe 2 years left. Why he would consider a change of clubs for such a short period when:

  • he's clearly well settled in Melbourne since 2012
  • is in the leadership group of the biggest club in the land
  • is adored by a 100K+ membership base and a few million+ fan base
  • is in the best form of his life, and
  • by all reports, will continue to be paid handsomely to stay exactly where he is

Because he wants to be closer to family? Please... he can do that after finishing up a one-club Collingwood Hall of Fame player in 2-3 years when he is 35 years old and in the prime of his life after footy.

I reckon its total hogwash from the journo

he has got the rest of his life for that, the guy is only 33 ffs

plays 2 more years, another flag or possibly 2 at a club he loves and that loves him
goes off into the sunset a one club player and dare i say, a legend
