Exactly - not sure where the cap is gone

JDG - 850
Perryman - 900
Houston - 900
Nick - 1m+
Appear to be our top earners

… those 4 still doesn’t reach the same cap space of NAS + TDK
I don't think the cap is gone. Just journo's making it up as per usual.

It really depends where Melbourne see their list at .

If they feel they are still in the contending window , then they may prioritize senior talent which will require cap space.

If they feel like they need to undertake a mini rebuild, they will prioritize draft picks.

Either way we should stay away from Petracca because the cost is too much.
Given the lack of depth in this years draft, unless its a top 10-15 pick, I'm not sure if they would benefit to trade a player that will help you win games plus help the kids around them.
Thats even without factoring in who has that sort of currency for a 30 year old and the $$ he is on

Saints banked cap from previous years is the talk as the reason they can spend big
There is Josh D would be up around 700-800
Maynard when he re-signed
Crisp?
Moore?

Moore 850ish
Maynard 800kish
Cameron 750ish
Josh d 750ish
Hill 750ish? New deal not sure

It all adds up I guess

The supposed lack of depth in this years draft is exactly why I feel we may see more teams willing to part with draft capital in this years draft for senior players .

I'd rather Merrett over Petracca. But I'd rather Butters over both of them.

I’m the opposite. Petracca was a top 3 player in the game. We get him anywhere near that and we have the most dynamic 1-2 punch in the league.

Merrett on the other hand, in my view, has never been a top 10 player, and is more of a “nice to have”. But I understand it’s close.

Surely Nick's contract is something along the lines of a certain percentage of our salary cap.
With NAS getting 2M, Nick's management would be well within their right to ask the club to renegotiate his contract to increase his annual salary.

Especially with the contract concessions that tassie has, they can throw the mother of all contract offers at nick. We need to at least be within 500-700k of what they may potentially offer .

It would be like divorcing your wife to marry her sister.
Have you seen my wife's sister.

Nick’s manager would have no right to do that at all.

Petracca was. For all we know, he may never get back to being the same player.

Not to mention the difference in contract dollars. If it's accurate, Merrett was on roughly $900k a year before a recent rise, so who knows what he's now on, maybe $1m, whereas Petracca is on between $1.2-1.3k a year.

Anyway, I'd rather Butters for 2027, if not possible for 2026.

He will if tassie come hard at nick. It is an uncomfortable thought, but one we need to have plans for.

There is no doubt that nick is the face of the AFL, and will likely be so for quite some time, that would make him the no 1 target on every clubs wishlist.

Send them Sam Darcy seeing as al the oppo flogs and media claim hes the GOAT

People are delusional if they think we'll get Butters.
We can put out our wish list and discuss preferences.

None of those being discussed could be realistic for all we know. Bombers may just say no to trading Merrett. Dees may just say no to trading Petracca. And Butters is OOC at the end of 26, so he can decide for himself.

I really don't see why we wouldn't be in with a chance to get him . The chance to play alongside nick should be enough to convince him to choose us .
As far as the trade compensation is concerned,we have smart people running our club to figure that out should it come to it .

Going by what Steven King is saying, he has no plans om letting petracca go, "premierrship players dont grow on trees." and he expects dees to get back in contention next season and you need that experience

Depends maybe where we sit and our Future looks at the Club

If he decided to leave then he is still in Contract so Tassie would have to Trade for him

Heard that Moore is on 1million
Darcy Cameron will be on a lot next year
Crisp 800k
Elliot and Maynard 700k

Pendlebury Howe and Sidebottom hard to say, could be a lot or they could be playing for unders.
400k to Grundy

My favourite line was “30 years old at maximum tase value”.

Sorry Ralphy but you don’t get max value for 30 year olds on inflated contracts. Sounds a lot like him trying to wish away the potential of Collingwood getting stronger.
Precisely how I interpreted it too.

Did I read 1.7 million? 🤣
