Given every trade deal Brady has done (bar getting Darling and Parker for junk picks) has been an unmitigated disaster. It isn't worth getting rid of Jy, we'll get screwed with what we'd get back.

Make him play what ever role suits the team, there's very little chance we'd get anyone better than him in return.
Make X captain and Jy can just focus on his footy.

Petracca leaving Melbourne to go to Adelaide when he's not from SA would be silly.

I might be in the minority, but I reckon's Melbourne list is capable of finals next year. The question is can they be coached there.
Melbourne have had their run, their core players are getting on, how long can Max Gawn still keep going, Oliver while still a good player isn't half the player he was, Christian probably won't be there and even if he stays again, he looks worn out, needs a fresh change, King has just come aboard and I could go about the rest of their list, they will not be getting within cooee of the Eight, not even close, its time they rebuild, not a full rebuild but a rebuild all the same. Carlton & Essendon are two more teams that need more young talent, the bombers also need experienced players to help their youngsters.

disagree. but as my wife can attest to, I've been wrong before.

The thing with a Simpkin trade is that his manager will negotiate it for us if he wants to get somewhere bad enough. We just have to dig out heels in on what the minimum return needs to be and let his manager try to get it done.

Trading players away is very different to trading them in (Daniel, CCJ, etc).

In Rawlings’ case, I’m not so sure.

He was able to turn a triple Coleman medal runner up into pick 38.

I think that says it all.

Best we could hope for is a second rounder with Jy if Brady is negotiating. He has negative charisma attributes.

Rawlings has no standing as trade negotiator, and I’m surprised anyone on here can argue to the contrary.

Lmao of course he is right - club chose the wrong captain 100% and they did it as a popularity contest where everyone got to case their vote on who was the most likeable.

And they did the weird shit with the Luke McDonald co-captaincy.

This is such good news for the club. Means we’re sifting through the shit.
FWIW, LMac was voted the captain this year but declined because he couldn't devote the time for it. Still Simpkin was second so still wasn't an optimal outcome.

The Simpkin trade has to be for a player that fills a need, trading for draft picks doesn’t help us now.
Agree that we don’t need more draft picks but who is feasibly out there that will work.

We realistically need to do what hawthorn did last year and target defenders early on.

Simpkin is worth a teens pick imo, but I can’t say I’d hand that over for butts.

Maybe best case scenario is we take a future first from someone, and stockpile it to get our future full back next year?

In the meantime pick up a frost or butts as a stop gap?

Caddy is the one but I can’t see that being viable

It won't matter, we'll hear that getting pick 52 and paying half of Jy's salary was another great outcome.

That’d be an ideal scenario. Realistically though there aren't many options who’d match his output and clubs aren’t going to give up a potential young gun for him. I highly doubt we’ll turn the head of a decent key back too. If he wants more midfield minutes, there are only a few clubs that would work.

Essendon
Melbourne (if Trac Leaves).
St.Kilda
Geelong (linked to Worpel & Jy is better than him)
Adelaide
Port Adelaide
Carlton

Outside of Caddy I don’t think would be much Essendon could offer us. Same with Port and Carlton. Essendon and Melbourne probably have the draft capital to make it work.

St.Kilda would make sense, we could target Wilkie (huge contract) or Wilson (big contract). If Wilkie we could throw some picks their way.

Adelaide would have to cough up some draft capital along with Butts, but with their late draft picks it isn’t particularly appealing.

The problem is that when fit, McDonald and Logue just walk into the best 23.
Hard to push these established players out of a spot. That's why our kids take so long to develop.

Essendon would be ideal.

They will have 4 top 10 picks. Simpkin and pick 20 for one of them.

He will also see that the grass isn't always greener, as their next 5 years will make our last 5 look like a walk in the park.

Scott was always a big fan of him too....

With all the movement let’s all put all the players in a pool and draft from there
"Jy is a valued member of our team, club captain and B&F winner. We will only entertain serious trade offers. "

That should be the only words coming out of the mouths of our list management team and supporters.
Come on, you honestly think other Clubs listen to what opposition supporters say!

Agree and it is a little bleak in that context.

My worry is without Jy we are a 'worse' side next year (relatively) unless we replace with a player in a position of need. Albeit we'll have some overall improvement Jy is at his peak and has versatility - he is important for that improvement. I wonder what LDU and Larkey think of this. Both have signed long term and no doubt sold on the climb up the ladder is not too far away.

The club will need to manage this carefully. Get the best return (assuming he finds suitor) that still sees us climb the ladder but more importantly the messaging to the rest of the playing group will need to be on point.

We can't be seen as going backwards.

Hird and Eddie not wrong in that last 15 seconds.

**** you eddie!!
15 years ago Demetriou took you on a junket to the US, to try to fix this exact problem and you opposed it massively in the media, at the time.
You got your wish.

The game is ****ed unless you’re one of four teams.
