We turned Chesser into Tylah Williams and a couple of future thirds from Hawthorn, so hopefully we get something out of it yet.

It seemed a real reach at the time, though, and there were more fancied players available that are looking like much better picks in hindsight - Johnson, Wilmot, Van Rooyen.

(From memory I was pretty keen on Arlo Draper, who slipped to the 40s and was delisted by Collingwood after two fruitless years, so what do I know)

Presuming the Dogs had no rucks to go up against him today, Ladhams (SYD) had 40 possessions, 47 hitouts and 19 clearances today against WB.

Is he any good or was this out of the ordinary as I know nothing about him.?

The Dogs didnt even have a ruckman for their AFL side, let alone one for their VFL side

Very pleased to hear this, he's a player.

Leader, remains composed, defensively solid, finds ball, makes good decisions - and still only 23.

Get him and L.Duggan may never play in the seniors again.

Seemingly made for the way AFL is going with playmaking becoming more influential from halfback.

Widely expected to be picked up by Geelong for their AFL team if no-one else jumps in first.

Some Geelong articles on him regarding winning their VFL best and fairest and taking on a leadership role.

Highlights of his recent outstanding 34 disposals, 7 tackles and 2 goals Round 3 match against Werribee can be found below (the video says 2025, but the game was played 04/04/2026).

One aspect people forget with MSD is he actually has to want to come... I suspect Herbert finds a club closer to home to stay at.

I don't have a lot of hope of us finding a hidden gem KPD in the MSD. AFL quality KPD's are pretty rare. But i think there are likely to be more Milan Murdock types in secondary comp's around the country. We definately need some more pressure forwards. So i hope they are having a good look around for one.

With us having the 1st pick in the MSD it'll certainly be interesting to see who we take. From what I can gather the choices for us won't be a KPD. Our 1st pick will more than likely be either Marcus Herbert, a Half back with midfield potential or Oliver Griffin, a half forward with midfield potential. I'd suspect we go with Herbert who could allow for the release of McCarthy to the wing or Duggan to the WAFL.

Our 2nd pick would be interesting if we fill a spot at all with someone on here believing Jed Hagan is a certainty for a spot. Nathan Philactides is one who I'd like to see on our list if he lasts that long. I think he could also fill the Duggan/Cole role and with his dash out of the backline has the potential to help change our slow play coming out of defense into more of a weapon.

If we can get Warner and him as free agents next year that would be terrific.

But we need to sign an experienced inside bull THIS year to support the likes of Hewett, Harley, Gross et al me thinks.
N Martin is only OOC not a FA, still 26 though.

Tom Sparrow’s a RFA, having a very good season, right age for our list profile too.

1st pick? We have three teams under us on the ladder currently (MSD goes off current ladder positions) so will pick 4th (assuming the first three are taking selections).

Jed Walter back to back U18 CHF. A lot of recruiters claimed they would have taken him above Harley as pick 1.

What evidence do people have thinking he has a poor footy IQ?

Key position players take longer to develop - he's going to be a beast in his mid 20s.

Bring him in, at worst he can rotate forward/ruck with Archer and CDT.

Flynn OOC this year, trade/delist.

I would prefer a pressure forward to a HBF'er. We have enough HBF options going forward as it is. But i guess with an MSD you just have to take the best available regardless of position. The talent pool isn't deep enough to pick and choose.

No he doesn't? It's a draft, if you nominate you can be picked by anyone.

A bit of a falsehood this. Teams ask and confirm players desires before they pick them up. There is a reason the entire draft order is known before the draft takes place and it’s because clubs do their due diligence and lock in on one person before they take him

So Tom McCarthy, the consensus best prospect in the 2025 mid season draft, could have avoided having to move across the country and join a club that was an absolute basket case, just by saying “no thanks, don’t pick me”.

Sure.

We would have had that conversation for sure.

I mean do you think we would have picked him up if he had a 6 month deal and said he didnt want to stay?

That’s a moo point because like most of the top prospects in the MSD he nominated 18 months for the extra security.

But potentially yes, if we truly thought he was the best prospect in the pool and we backed ourselves to change his mind when he got here.

I really hope we wait til Chad Warner is an FA to get him over. Surely there's no chance of us trading for him early and lose picks that will assist our rebuild long term. Seems like he wants to win a flag with Sydney first.
