Which is why recruiting cox is a good move if he plays him and Treacy can interchange as the bail out kick from defence and playing deep. Helps amiss just be a roamer and Treacy can play a bit deeper and kick more bags.
Now picture amiss’s impact if he can genuinely spend 25% time on wing… mids out to Amiss to deliver into forward line with Mox👍 up forward with Voss, and with Treacy HF and Reid, Switta and Bolton just waiting for the ball… boom!

I just can't see us playing 4 key forwards and 2 rucks. Even with Treacy, Voss, Amiss and Jackson all being pretty quick. I think Cox is depth. Great depth but depth all the same.

I could easily see a parallel universe where Murphy and Harley are on every back page of the West in their Eagles gear.

Post my chunder emojis, I’ve just been thinking. This would never have happened if he’d ended up at the evil empire. He would have just been another kid who’s development was stunted as he copped flogging after flogging in both the 1s and 2s. No Rising Star, no 4 goals on debut, no huge number of goal assists or goals themselves, no demonstrations of his class, skill, footy smarts. Just a poor kid chucked into the midfield to get pushed around and live in the show of the other Reid. He would be known as ‘the lesser’ who got picked at 16, and would have endless comparisons and probably eventually got the boots sunk in because he wasn’t having an immediate impact. Once the initial hoopla of having two Reids on the team (the back page photo with the other one when he first arrived) he’d have faded quietly into the ‘we hope he comes good’ rhetoric that surrounds most weagles youngsters these days. Lucky bugger they picked Allan and he came here to us. ☺️💜

Sounds pretty spot on. West Coast really has become a black hole consuming the talent and happiness from all who enter. What a shame.

True bro, you sound like you know it all, that report couldn't have accomadated the w***ers on this board more if he tried.. Sounds like you are the one who likes to act.

All this shit you floggs wrap around Anfield for instance. We know what his strengths and weaknesses are, we know he has below average skills. Him and a few others did their best to hold shit down while our young group got strength and games into them. He is what he is. It's like laying into a dead horse, it lacks class.

This shits gone on with the freo faithful from the start. You pricks have been flogging these players like they owe you something. Week in week out these boys bust their arse trying to improve,,,while you bust their balls.

It's actually a fu$&ing joke the way freo supporters carry on. You expect every player to be elite ore else, what planet are you on?

This shit started with Waterhouse, we put this kid to the sword because he was a flanker who we wanted as out poster boy FF. The pressure the freo Faithfull put him under, the way he was spoken about. He kicked 7 goals and took it upon himself to win the demolition derby, getting 3 brownlow votes. Yet we only speak of the fights, we don't speak about the comeback or the bloke who drove it… because he is nickleback and every year the ‘w***ers’ find a new one.

Murphy would've stood out wherever he went. Class is class.

Yeah we say that. And it’s more than likely correct. But West Coast is West Coast. Where class goes to shit.
Well I can't disagree with that either.

Ras was playing wing come the end of the year. Wing that pushes in towards contest. The other wing one that runs the lines and holds width. Suits Jez Sharp and Toby Whan. Running machines. Whan Left footer and Sharp Right foot. Prob is Jez never uses L foot at all. Given The impressive PS running from JOM he may make this position his own.

So do you reckon for the two types of wing we are looking at:

  • Skinny side wings (push towards the contest): Erasmus, Johnson, O'Meara, (Part timers/shock weapons: Reid, Clark, Amiss)
  • Fat side wings (Hold space): Wagner, Sharp, O'Driscoll, Whan, (Is McVee a part time option for this?)

Does this check out with those that have been watching training?

From reading the training reports, Frederick could also be in the Fat side winger group, although unclear if he’s just playing extremely high half forward that gets into the backline on occasion (Schultz used to do this as well)

My feeling on this one is we're experimenting to try to eke out wing rotations from elsewhere on the ground, to see if we can get away without playing a "true" wingman.

We've got two runners (Sharp, Driz) who'd play high ToG% and repeat sprint all day on the fat side, and other options for more flexible, contested wingers to play the skinny side (Johnno, JOM, Ras). But with Sharp and Driz's issues with disposal by foot, their spots aren't secured. So instead, we're seeing if we can cobble together enough kms covered to run two wingers from the latter category who we might value higher on skills, marking, contested game etc., but can't cover (for example) Sharp's kms/ToG. Which could mean pulling in wing rotations from Amiss, Frederick, Wagner, McVee maybe??? (going off unconfirmed training reports).

With the extra sub you can easy have the wing role split between Frederick, McVee, JOM, Etc etc with out the need for an elite runner.

TOG drops 3-4 percent per player. Some players will stay at a high percentage so other player can get away with a lot lower percentage.

I doubt it. We were looking pretty shite ourselves when he kicked 4 on debut. He would have been a gun wherever he went.

The duality of man:

I don't disagree with freoextra. Jackson was in great touch, but Darcy looks the best I have seen him in any pre-season.

I spoke to Sam on Monday. He hasn't even began running yet.
He siad it would be more than likely this coming Monday.
Said he should be in full training by the end of June or early July.
He knows he has a battle on hand ,but said he is prepared to do the hard work to scare those that are in the team.

He has about 10-12 kg to cut. July is way too late; he needs to be back in full training by early June to give him the sort of runway needed to put a block of games together at Peel and keep his career going. I did see him start running at a pace our forum octogenarians wouldn't find too taxing. It's a positive that he's ahead of schedule.

One player that I should have mentioned was Chapman. No chance that he will be left out of the Rd 1 team this year (no idea what JL was thinking last year). Chapman looks really confident in defence.

Looking back to last year's pre-season as a comparison, this team is miles better. The connection is there in the forward line, and the depth looks really good. There's a bit to improve with transition out of defence, but they're definitely working on that. The team is moving the ball on from half-back much quicker, which will please the commentators on SEN.

I will take your 10/12 with a grain of salt. I stood within arms reach. He was wearing just the under vest. If he lost that he would be a skeleton.

I agree with everything but Sturt isn't overweight.

are you trying to fat shame the wings?
