Past #3: Jed Anderson - delisted end '22 - 89 NMFC games - go well Jed

Brings something none of our other players do... Hawthorn IP :P

Noticing from his highlights he has a real tendency to just throw a boot at the ball if its in his vicinity. Does he have a soccer background or something?

It's the speed he hits the ball at that gets me up and about with him. Most of our guys can be a bit flat footed but he hits the ball a speed. Is exactly what we needed.

Yes that and his intensity. Seems a really up and about type, our squad looks flat too often almost in need of an energizer bunny which is why Turner and Garner have stood out with their appetite to keep competing, and seem genuinely dirty if miss a tackle etc. (and I mean that with no disrespect to our quality older players)

I wouldn't be surprised if our recruiters targeted him for this reason, we have enough nice/neat guys.

The thought of Garner, Turner and Anderson smashing guys in close proximity in future years gets me excited! :thumbsu:

Does seem a reckless type, i'm sure will make plenty of mistakes to go along with exciting play.

But I think that opportunistic approach is something we have lacked, almost feel players are overcoached at times and lack natural flair. (not a go at Brad at all as its stood up in finals, just a feel from watching our games which is exact opposite of a few years ago)

Not sure if this adds much but my very keen Hawks supporting nephew told me at the weekend that he thinks our boy Jed is a real beauty. I hope he is right (goes without saying one might suggest).

And some of the passes that he pulls off. You see it and immediately think WTF but he has a high success rate. He sees what few see.

My biggest regret, besides the missed games, is that Dean Laidley made him a bit too unselfish for my liking. He'll dish off to a less skilled player when I'd rather he take the shot from 50m.
Good call.

He'd be close to our best mid over the past two seasons.
Oh dear God ...

An unremarkable Richmond player would be our best mid. This has to be a joke.

Brandon Ellis is far from unremarkable. He's a very good player already and only 22. It says a lot about his ability and the respect the opposition has for him when he was the outside player we tagged in the elimination final. In time he'll be an elite footballer.

Doesn't mean he'd have slotted in at North and performed the same way. Happy to say he's shown much more than BMac - not more than the guys who have actually played senior midfield games for us, though. And really, if Ellis is the best benchmark for the value of two picks there is, it's a pretty thin argument.

And I'll take a fully fit Wells, Harvey and pre-Achilles Swallow over Ellis, he's still going to be an extremely good player.

Um LOL @ saying Ellis would be our best midfielder.. I think someone is forgetting about Cunnington.
Ellis was played as a predominantly outside receiver, which is reflected in his numbers. He is the equivalent our Sam Gibson from 2014. That's not a knock on him, he is a very good role player with the potential to be a very good complete midfielder in his own right, but he would be a fair way down the pecking order at North.

The argument was the difference between Ellis and McKenzie at AFL level, which is huge.

been at the club for over a week and he is yet to play a game....where is he at?

Been at the club for over a week but yet to be seen at the club.

Have we been Mark Powell'd again?

I don't disagree. I think it's a specious argument to make regarding the detrimental effects in moving down the order two spots. Picks are only relative to the draft they are in and instances like that shouldn't be an argument why it's better to be two spots higher. The exact same argument could be made in reverse for other areas of the draft (ie Basti and Fyfe). I was just pointing out that Ellis is a very good footballer who will be elite, that's all.
