Is it true there will be ten 30 year olds on your list next year if Milburn stays on?

10 will turn 30 or more during 2011. What matters is how players are playing.
Milburn: career best form
Mooney: looks tired but still performing well enough. Most likely to go, for mine.
Ling: Expect a move to the forward line where he will be very effective.
Ottens: Might eke one more year from him, but we only have had him for finals for the past 2 years anyway. Expect the same if he continues.
Scarlett: as good as ever.
Chapman: Career best form. Seems to be managing his hammys well atm.
Enright: As good as ever.
Rooke: Could be gone, sadly, but if his knee can be managed, could play his role comfortably.
Wojinski: Playing as well as ever, and still seems to have his pace.
Podsiadly: He's a recruit.

It is an issue, but the club has succession plans in progress. We'll be fine, thanks!

I wonder how much throbbie balls gets paid for trotting out the same old tired lines every time he's slotted to call a Geelong game. He's gotta be sleeping with someone at Ch 10, surely. :D

Apparently Ottens/Lonergan/Taylor had to interchange because they just can't run anymore from tiredness....

I remember a game against Sydney where Walls said Taylor had gone off because Goodes had "run him to the point of exhaustion". Next shot was of Goodes puffing on the bench!

Chapman turns 30 in November 2011, so don't count him in that bracket. The 30 yo's in the 2011 season will be-

Ottens - will be 31 in January
Mooney - will be 32 in September
Scarlett - 32 in June
Milburn - 34 in April
Wojcinski - 31 in September
Enright - 30 in September
Ling - 30 in February
Podsiadly - 30 in September

Can Ottens really go another year? I think we need to cryogenically freeze him and then unleash him every finals series.

I reckon Ottens is beginning to look quite dangerous for the recent gallop. As long as he can avoid random injuries like foot stress reactions (which aren't age-related), I wouldn't be surprised to seem him play another 2 seasons after this one.

Agree. Ottens v Dogs was his best game since the round 2 win against Hawthorn, before he got injured. Was covering a lot of ground and took some strong marks. Missing large chunks of the past two seasons could actually end up a blessing in disguise as he could play a year or two more than he otherwise would have.

The other side of the coin is his body has not been belted over a full season for some time and this could mean he could go for a couple of season after this one. I am not, for one, convinced that his career is nearly over.

With you on this one. Fletcher of the Dons - 35 and the oldest player in the AFL - I am told by a diehard Bomber fan mate - will win the B & F this year - or come very close (missing games now). Gun player and playing well. So why would you even consider retiring him ?

Same is true of most of the Cats that will be or are over 30 next season.

pretty sure we will have the following players 25 or under next year...

Taylor
selwood
varcoe
blake (meh)
stokes (i think?)

with players like Mitch brown, marcus drum, daniel menzel, taylor hunt, jeremy laidler and mitch duncan knocking on the door

so we will still havea good balance

Exactly...the overall profile of our list is not too old, it's just that's skewed at both ends where the VFL team is largely under 20 and all the older players are in the seniors. I'd expect over the next 2-3 years as some of the 30 + players decide to hang up the boots, that we will inject youth into the side and the age balance will be fine.

The Western Bulldogs team we played against this weekend were the second oldest team to play with an avarage age of 26 years and 3 days. We were the oldest with an average age of 26 years and 252 days. (This was with 3 inexperienced young players involved.) We must make hay while the sun shines but it will leave a void in the future.

The team is maintaining a winning culture while trying to play the younger players. That is why it was good to see Menzel, T Hunt and Laidler gain a little experience this week.
