Happy with that. Competes really well, can take a grab around the ground and up forward, generally quite an accurate kick for goal. If Draper goes down, we know that we’ve got a very capable depth ruckman who can slot straight in with minimal fuss whilst Bryan continues to develop.

Pleased he re-signed. Good back up. Bit surprised he didn't explore other opportunities as he must see that Bryan has higher ceiling. Maybe he did and wasn't much interest.
Phillips actually played pretty much every game he was eligible for this year – his injuries (and the birth of his kid) coincided with Draper being healthy and vice versa. Bryan is mainly behind Phillips because he's not strong enough yet, which he's not going to suddenly develop over one preseason, so the spot is safe enough for the 12 months of this contract extension. He's not likely to get more than 12 months anywhere else anyway and a second ruck spot is as good as he's likely to get.

Hopefully Bryan goes past him next year, and he can stick around as a pefect third ruck

Bases on how Rutten has operated this year, I have no doubt that Andrew knows he is going to be 3rd in line and play mostly VFL next year. The fact he has signed is a good thing for our flexibility and competitiveness in the ruck role.
