If we picked up Graham at 29 people would have been happy.
If we then picked up Bolton at 53, people would be doing cartwheels.

Funny how it would have changed many people's outlook on our draft performance.....
I posted the exact same thing 2 weeks ago ................. Very true about what people would have thought if that was the order
#29 - Graham would have been good tough big inside mid is exactly what we need
#53 - Shai WOW what a bargain

People just love to complain.

And yet, if we picked up James Sellar are Pick 12, people here would be doing cartwheels.

WGAF what supporters think about draft picks.

It'd be like closing down all hospitals and telling patients to google their symptoms and treat themselves.

Graham is a safe bet. Will play plenty of games and should be a good solid performer. At pick 53 what do we want.
My thoughts exactly, can't think of anyone I'd have preferred with this late a pick. I'd be very interested to hear draft guru's read on why he went so late.

Personally think he will start the year off after a good solid preseason in the VFL team but through work ethic and considerable upside will dislodge a Miles come round 3-5 and stay in the team, with Miles also playing a bunch of games depending on injuries to Caddy, Graham, Prestia.

I haven't seen enough of him but looks to be a great get at 53, good luck to the lad.

What impresses me about Graham is that he relishes the grunt work...and is clean about it, is strong in the core and stays on his feet- importantly gets the pill away to a teammate.

Importably he seems very professional about getting his body right, trains hard

Is very well spoken

Lol. Why are you even here? Big Footy is what supporters think about anything football, including draft picks.

I just meant in reference to "I think he went too high!" or "I think he went too low!". You were correct by the way with what you said!

Im here because there's plenty of discussion about Richmond on here. Most of that is based on what we can see every week on match day. There's supporters who highlight the charcoal and mustard. There's training updates. There's a few posters who seem to know a little more than the average punter.

Then there's the posters who make strong judgments about draft picks lol.

Anyone who forms a strong opinion on draft picks on here is a bit thick in my opinion. Casual likes and dislikes are fun though - I really like 3 things about Garthwaite:

1. Elite kick for goal
2. "Most competitive kid in the draft"
3. Averaged 17 possessions per game, which is the style of defender Rance was when he was 17 (he wanted to play wing/HBF back then)

So I kind of like Garthwaite because of that, but I'm not going to act like my casual opinion on that should hold much weight though!

Its all part of the cycle of footy. Draft picks bring excitement, suspense, hope. Key reasons why people follow sport. Building is just as interesting if not more interesting than the finished product

But i agree re the strong feelings.

Yep, and the AFL absolutely thrives on selling hope from draft picks.

They make so much money and generate so much interest from supporters of crap teams because of it - lately it's getting even more hyped up with so much information and talk about the draft these days. I liken it to fantasy talk, it's only when supporters get hot under the collar because they think their judgments on a fantasy topic really are important!

just reinforces the confusion as to why he didnt go top 20-30, mind boggling.

I think we needed to look elsewhere/different type with our rookie pick but I have hopes for Tyson but overall I think this was a very very good draft with Bolton, Graham and garthwaite.

The only failure is that we didn't take enough picks. Would have been ideal with a couple of others like Macredie, Beagley, Maibaum, Cameron et al.

Compare the Graham selection (#53) with Matty Arnot (#55 in 2011).

No offence meant to Arnot of course, but even without playing a game you can already see that Graham is a much much better selection.

Hopefully we have sorted out our sh*t, and it certainly looks to be the case.

Really looking forward to seeing this guy play, reckon he literally just slipped, that's it. Other clubs had their eyes on other players, or went for different position types at the picks they had, and we just got lucky. About time if you ask me. Feel the same about Garthwaite btw, no way he should have got to the 70s.

Strange isn't it. Graham's only knock seems to be that he isn't a good kick. Physical beast, great attitude, leader, gets the hard ball, great defensively. Sort of overlooking his positives for a few negatives. He sounds like he should be an almost instant AFL quality inside mid. Maybe not a star, but does the job. For pick 53 that is fantastic. You would expect to get an Arnot type that is likely to have AFL traits, but needs work to get there. Graham is supposed have AFL quality instantly, just some limitations.

Reality is most inside mids are average kicks at best, so his positives surely outweigh his negatives.

He is also a fantastic runner already which is another rarity for inside mids early on.

His dropping to 53 is weird when you look at it like that. He seems like a walk up start 200 gamer. Possibly one of the club leaders providing long run inside grunt and an example. What a bargain!! (Hope this is right though)
