Langford is set to be an unrestricted free agent, meaning Essendon couldn't match a rival's deal for him, but the important midfielder is keen to remain at Tullamarine.
He has played 99 games for the club and is a young free agent in that he doesn't turn 26 until December after the end of this season. Langford is currently nursing a hamstring injury, with his absence in the midfield and forward half felt for the Bombers since round one. – Callum Twomey
In talks for a contract extension.

Are wings no longer part of the midfield? He is an important midfielder and provides good get out marking on the wing, excellent disposal into the forward line and can float forward and score. We really miss him there.important midfielder? Not sure about that.
Our compensation is not going to be anywhere near his worth to us (plus we’d have to trade it out so it didn’t get eaten by the Davey pick). We are already devoid of leadership and he’s one of our better leaders. He's a good player and it's a win if he stays. But considering we have wing options, he is someone that we should look into what the compensation would be and whether we're better off taking that instead. Could be a good time for caps to be far roomier than previous years.
We don't have to trade it out. Just spend it on the Davey pick. Our compensation is not going to be anywhere near his worth to us (plus we’d have to trade it out so it didn’t get eaten by the Davey pick). We are already devoid of leadership and he’s one of our better leaders.
While his recovery from a long-term hamstring injury is on track, midfielder Kyle Langford won’t be available before the round 12 bye.
“'Langers’ is going well. He’s about seven weeks into that rehab process after surgery. He’s progressing really well and getting some volume running in. He’s started his strength work, but we won’t see him before the bye,” Murphy said.
Literally less than a week ago he's in talks for a contract extension according to AFL.com.au "the important midfielder is keen to remain at Tullamarine"
Is his manager trying to bump up his price?
He's unrestricted so if he wants to go he can just accept their offer and go, there's no bid matching
12 months is a long time in footy. 12 months ago everyone thought we were on the rise and hawthorn, pies, Saints were in a hole. Now the tables have flipped. Whose to say next year hawks, pies could easily be down the bottom again and we are in the in the 8. Young teams growth isn’t linear. Dees 2018 to 2019 another example. To be fair, if you put yourself in his shoes, a 25 year old about to enter his prime, probably the only chance he’ll get at a long term deal and Hawthorn came knocking, he’d be silly not to consider it.
Am sure he’ll stay, but he probably won’t be playing finals here where Hawks look to be a young side on the right track
We've actually missed him this year. To be honest I hope he stays. Between him and Martin alternating Wing and HF we look a lot better. If he goes there he's dead to me.
I don’t think he’ll be going anywhere as long as we give him 4-5 years. We've actually missed him this year. To be honest I hope he stays. Between him and Martin alternating Wing and HF we look a lot better.
