Agree with this point, but I would Rather Will Phillips doing that. He can at least tackle too.
100% agree with you,
I thought for the longest time, after 2x Glandular, Phiilips should've been repositioned as a forward, get him up and going build him back up, let him do repeat efforts in bursts and reassess in a couple of years when he's regained fitness.
trying to build his fitness up in the midfield, I feel is a bridge to far with the limited amount of contract time available.
you have to set people up for success

I'm so sick of this excuse.
Watch the behind the goals footage next time we take kick outs. Its like that sculpture of all them statues in the street in Poland. No one is moving!!!

Watch how many times our players are still flat footed when they have the ball kicked to them.

I know our players don't move. I don't think that excuses Daniel's form.

Our players don't lead much, that's true. But this bloke has missed open targets pretty frequently, and often runs himself into trouble by calling for receives when he hasn't had a chance to scan upfield. He also struggles to position himself when put on forwards who move up to the stoppage, and is often so laser focused on being the quarterback that he lets his teammates down in other respects.

I like the guy and sincerely hope his form improves.

Another interesting recruit when we already resembled Munchkin Land. Fisher would've given us the same as CD has done without sacrificing pick 25.
And now the question is, can Fisher and Daniel both play in the one team? No. So at least one of them is going to see out his long-term contract in the VFL. Not great list management.

Fisher makes some sense as a sub this week but Fisher, Daniel and McKercher in the same team is a real stretch.

All have multiple games of zero tackles and Fisher has not laid one this year.

Caleb is another player that needs the team, as a whole, to improve before he plays his best football - like Stephens. In Daniel’s case, our players will need to give him better options within 30 metres. Caleb can’t really kick much further than that. Worse case is when he has to kick long. Invariably his kicks hang and die in the air and, inevitably, get intercepted. If we start giving him options within 30 metres, everything will change for the better, IMO.

I disagree. If we neutralise our players’ strengths, poor outcomes are inevitable. Like many B/C level players, Caleb is limited. However, he is a master of the dinky kick. If you remove his opportunities to do that, you can’t be surprised if he performs poorly. If he were a midfield beast or a hard tackling player, he’d be able to deal with the situation after a fashion. He’s none of those things, so…

No, Caleb needs to stop calling for the ball when he's blind and on his wrong side, and needs to stop picking out the opposition when he has 2-3 blokes on.

He needs to be repurposed out of the backline. 2 games ago he kicked 2 balls out of bounds on the full in a QTR. This is on him to play smarter and more accountable football. Aside from the 2 practice matches he has been a major disappointment for what he is being paid and what it cost us to getting him. In 17 other teams he would not be picked on current form.

Some of that falls on the blokes giving him the footy as well.

30 metres? It is way too easy for the opposition to defend such a tiny area. Every time he goes back behind the mark the opposition get time to block up the space in his range and we are stuffed.

You can't have a distributor with so little penetration, which is why the dogs axed him from the role. Players like Houston or Nas run 15 then kick it 55. Daniel is lucky if he moves the ball half that far - and it takes him much longer to do it.

Nah, you're not taught to burn blokes tbh. You're taught to trust the handball receive call
Yeah I somewhat agree with you but there are a lot of instances that are not instinctively giving it to him based on him calling for it.

There are regular occurrences where it’s so painfully obvious they are focussed on trying to get the ball to Daniel making it easily telegraphed. It comes across like a bit of a coaching direction for some of our more suspect kicks.

I thought he was brought in to make players around him better? Not the other way around?

The cherry on top is slow short and can barely kick over 30m?

He really is the mini cherry.

He has some class and experience, which are not in a huge supply on our list. For a combination of reasons, it hasn't worked well so far, but not all is on him. Partly it's how he's used, and partly it's about him gelling with the rest of the backline and midfield. I do think he will come good as the season progresses

That's been happening for 5 years. When do you think the coaching staff will address this?

Tell us you don't rate Caleb Daniel without telling us you don't rate Caleb Daniel.

Charlie Comben (paraphrased): Yeh I shouldn't have given the handball (to Caleb Daniel calling for it) after taking the mark 3 minutes out, we've gone over that in my review
