He was so effective playing up the ground last week.
So what do we do this week? Back to taking the kicks in

What is even the point of getting frustrated over this anymore when we keep making problems for ourselves that are easily fixable

**** me

Could you imagine being a defender getting barked at by a garden gnome telling you how to defend when he can’t even defend a witches hat.
Imagine being a garden gnome left to defend someone 192cm while the tall blokes zone off.

Yeah exactly, liability man on man and a liability in a zone. Apparently the only way he is effective as a defender is when he’s playing forward of centre.

By the way, it looked to me like Caleb was picking up Peatling, or it could have been the other way around. Peatling kicked 3 goals, his personal best. At least 2 of them was on Caleb, it’s hard to tell because Caleb is often trailing his opponent by 10m or he is just guarding grass and being totally useless.

Our clearance game was on fire yesterday.
We scored 10.6 from stoppages.

If that part of our game wasn’t on, we’d have got belted.

Get the ball in Colby’s hands or even Hardeman when he’s back.
Our defensive transition work is abysmal and non existent.

Good luck to these campaigners this pre-season
They’re gonna need it

Why are you going to make me defend Caleb Daniel?

He had 13 kicks and 12 handballs at 80% disposal efficiency. He had 3 interception possessions. Three I50s. 0 frees against. 4 score involvements.

He was good yesterday. He's been bad earlier in the year and deserving of criticism. But yesterday he was good.
Much, much better using his strengths pressing up the ground.

Said the same thing at the game. Boggles the mind.

Something that often goes unnoticed is just how often he's hanging there for a handball receive from one of the kids with a bloke on their hammer instead of laying the much needed block for them. That's gotta stop.
I have seen 3 blocks this season outside the forward 50.

1 by Hardeman
1 by FOS
1 by Konstanty

I’m confused by this.

Do you want him to play as one of the back six but only play up the ground? Because he still played as a defender against the tigers and took 4 out of 9 kick-ins.

He has played as a defender all year although it’s hard to tell because 80% of the time he’s defending grass. If he played inside mid or wing, he would get totally monstered.

Are we trying to create a new position to utilise his talents? A defender who doesn’t play in the D50?

This is him in a nutshell.

Not just him either imo.

Yeah looked good last week as the second / third player in the rebound 50 chain and this week he’s back to taking kickouts.

We can’t complain about the umpires / afl / injuries / suspensions when we don’t help ourselves with these dumb things

If we don’t get Starceviche we absolutely need Goater to overtake Daniel. Given he can’t defend for shit it shouldn’t be too hard atleast.

Skilled yet incredibly limited. There is a role for him but it sure as **** isn’t as a number 1 or 2 kick-in taker. He should end chains, not begin them. Plays too much like a seagull for a bloke with little penetration.

I must admit I haven’t hated his last few weeks though.

I don’t want him playing deep is the point.

Yesterday we had Colby being tagged by Keays who killed him going the other way and then Daniel got played deeper as a result.

Killed us and pivotal in us losing the game.

I know we were light on personnel wise but tactically this worked against us yesterday and is something that needs to be rectified over the summer.
