Player Watch #5: Caleb Daniel

Just to clarify I’ didn’t say Caleb was bad yesterday. Just not good enough for the role he plays, for his lack of defensive accountability, for what we paid for him and probably for what we are paying him.

So when I see people say he played a very good game… gee it’s a ****ing low bar.

or maybe I think his offensive output has to be that much more to make up for it?

And his offensive output has been that good we have had to move Kerch back there again, when everyone was saying his recruitment would release Kerch further up the field. Even sheez had to move back for a while.

And above all else, no other team would play such a defensive liability in defence. Most teams find defenders who can defend and attack.

There are many half back flankers that you would classify as defensive liabilities at worse, or at best, have it low on their list of priorities.

Im in the camp of, I don't think it was a trade that we needed to make, but now that we have, i would rather he be judged on output on the field.

A Daniel forward of centre who runs toward the goals is of use in this side. A Daniel in the backline who goes left and right and stat pads is a liability.

When Kerch and FOS went direct and took on the defense he linked up well and played his role. As many have said need to see him remain consistent and produce this every week, not just against a busted arse Tiger outfit.

What you talking about Willis? He plays as one of the back 6. The only way he plays forward of centre is if we dominate the opposition.

It’s that old Caleb needs better players around him scenario. When that happens, he gets dropped and traded to some gullible outfit.

One thing I noticed live in the smaller ground is that he is very, very vocal in organising the defence.

His performances directly correlate to the ladder position of the team which he is playing against that week.

Gets absolutely found out against good teams every single time.

Ive also noticed the better the team we are playing, the more they want the ball in this guys hands.

Its diabolical we gave him such a long deal.....

For a guy we recruited to have composure and assuredness by foot, he has been a massive disappointment across the whole season. Cannot play in the backline period. Can’t play AFL standard football consistently any more. Horrible trade on so many levels.

Will be one of the first signs of where Clarko's mindset is at in pre-season.

If he has Daniel in the starting back 6 when Archer, FOS and Hardeman are available then we can take it as 100% certain that Clarko is cooked.

Was outside with radio on listening to the the broadcast and Daniels attemptrd a clearing kick put of defence that went 40m according to the commentry. They were open mocking himb for not having the carry to pull of the kick he attempted.

The opposition would have no fear of the ball going out the back when they zone up for his kick ins. They probably set up 15-20m closer to goal too.

Has obviously been a talented footballer, and still is ..... just like footscray reckoned, the game is faster and bigger than he is. Might be best 22 on the training track, but is a liability height, speed and kicking depth wise. Imo.

Physically unable to compete when the opposition has the ball.

Has obviously been a talented footballer, and still is ..... just like footscray reckoned, the game is faster and bigger than he is. Might be best 22 on the training track, but is a liability height, speed and kicking depth wise. Imo.

Might make a good sub as long he dont come on in defence, reckon he is even probably good for a few midfield rotations but playing him in defence is garbage
