Neale

Naicos

?

They have volume users. Or designated kickers or whatever you want to call it.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with being a high possesion outside player who finds most of their ball uncontested.

The thing that seperates the elite from spuds is ball use. When you have great ball use it benefits the team to get you the ball as much as possible.

I'd say Tom Mitchell is the most analogous player in a top side. He racks up disposals without being overly damaging nor is he particularly defensive, not really a guy you bother tagging. Current version Parish (2021 Parish was actually reasonably damaging) the same kind of player.

Nick Daicos, Neale, Merrett etc.. can all certainly 'accumulate' but they're not the same kind of player that's being discussed, they're all very damaging and guys that you'd tag to avoid letting them rack up disposals.

Define accumulator then?

Or are we just talking about something completely different? Damaging kick is different

Whats lachie neale?
Tom Mitchell/Matt Priddis. Get a heap of the ball on the inside, create opportunities for others, won't hurt you when they're in open space, but they are vital in a good side.

That is what Tsatas should be aiming to be, whilst working on upping his physicality and kicking, albeit he won't get to Brownlow Medalist level

One thing I think we have really struggled to do well as a club is hanle confidence players who - for whatever reason - injury, form, position, coaching - lost confidence in themselves and their role.
Recent examples such as Cox, Jones, Wright.

Tsatas looks to me to be in that box. I see elites traits (along with well documented flaws) that a smart club and team would make the most of. But a player who is limited in obvious ways needs to feel like they belong, that their elite traits are worth it despite the flaws.

Put the disappointment of draft pick and comparisons aside. The kid has some tools. Are they good enough? Is the rest of his game too much of a liability? Surely we back him in to find out.

It will be very interesting to see how they play him tomorrow. His pre-season games were promising. I hope we back him in for the next 3 - 4 weeks.

Haters are going to be on his back. I say let's see what happens if he begins to belong.

Ive been mulling over this issue for most of the season because of the plights of Perkins and Tsatas.

I can see your point but then if I put boomer glasses on I think should one of the traits of a top 10 pick be they have a certain level of arrogance/confidence in their ability too?

Like with other areas of development at what point is there too much investment put into managing a players mental state vs the on-field output? Im not saying we have invested enough in this to date (we have been known to half ass a lot of aspects of off field management) but I do think its a factor that needs to be considered.

for sure it’s just a slur that people use to mean Shit. If those players have great disposal they are Gun mids/Superstars/weapons/QBs

His game will be over analyzed good or bad, kid has played 15 games and because Scott decided to treat him differently (Rightly or wrongly you can't tell me he hasn't) he's already under severe pressure.

He should play out the year regardless of his form, truly back him in with some clean air.
Just on this. Yes he has been treated a it differently but it is more the fact they tried to get early games into him by using him on a wing for a bit and a small time forward as well as midfield but it did not work. He has probably got the best development for him by playing just midfield in the VFL rather than playing some sort of ad hoc role at AFL level.
You could mount an argument over Parish getting games in front of him but he has basically been parked behind other midfielders and now two are out he is in. It is a little different to Perkins and Hobbs who have been playing different roles. There have been some discussions about moving Caldwell or Durham out to accommodate Tstats and move Perkins or Hobbs out of the side but what is the discussion you have with Caldwell / sorry mate you can go and play forward so Tsatas can have your spot. I would argue his development has been better to be playing VFL midfield compared to Hobbs who has had to play out of his lane to fill a small forward spot because our small forward are very average.

Listen to Buckley comment on accumulators.
A bloke who wins a lot of the footy but does not really do a lot of damage with the possessions.
An opposition team is unlikely to tag him because they have a lot of junk possessions that do not result in score involvements or score chains.
