Did he?!?

No, but you plan to cover risks, not hope that worst case doesn't happen.

The inclusion of Soldo meant that Nank was fresh in Q4...which he dominated.
BTW Soldo was always going to be in the 23. Whether as medi sub or bench didn't matter.

See I’m less sure on bits of this. I think the coaches always knew his best position but equally knew that if that’s the only place he was going to play he just wasn’t going to get AFL games (see RCD)

They tried to get him a bit more flexible so he could get into the senior team for more experience and the plan was always to get him back in the middle once a position opened up

Obviously don’t know any of that for sure but could understand if that was the approach taken
this is a good summery ross is too slow and probably not football smart enough to be a champion mid bull, so tiger coaches wanted another string to his bow as an endurance brando type that we needed at the time. now macca and marls are holding the wing spots. ross can play as a pure mid but hopefully have that added experience as an outside runner to compliment his game, otherwise he may be tradeworthy in our pursuit of green/hopper. i get a similar vibe about jack graham being traded if we want green and/or hopper. we may need too offload 2 very serviceable players to get that upgrade we need.

Can we pay for those two with Sheds and Lambert retiring and not trade?

Was Jack Ross withdrawn because he was ill or injured?

On punt road end the track watchers said he copped a heavy tackle, punched the ground and did light running afterwards during the training session on Thursday
Says to me probably injury but they wanted to give him the chance to play if he came up alright

He's not an A1 mid but I think we missed him yesterday, he offers more than Dow at the moment and in a close game he might have made some sort of difference in the middle.
We had no size in the middle, RCD, whose tackling has been a strength in the VFL, would have been a better replacement than Dow.

Dow might become a good player but he is an inside mid who likes to takes the tackler on, which is great because he has such good movement. But until he puts on some muscle, he will constantly get the ball stripped from him. Happened in the VFL last week, same last night. Ross was missed because he has the strength to stand up in tackles.

Dow didn't get a lot of the ball, but won 6 clearances. He seems to take a game or two to adjust to the pace of AFL footy when we bring him in.

I think he is a great prospect because he takes the game and the tackler on and can work free. Great lateral movement. So while he gets his clearances he also gets the ball dislodged a fair few times as well. Inside mids are solid and strong in the arms, they have to be to hold on to the ball in the heat and not get it taken from you or knocked off balance. Right now both happen to him. Needs 5kg's of muscle and he will be a different player.

If Ross played against the Suns, we would have won. He would have been at the drop of the ball, feeding the ball out to our outside ball users. When the GC put the clamps on Bolton after half time, we lost our inside flair and grunt work. Ross would have provided that.

I see Ross as a Blue Collar worker who doesn't do the flashy things but makes everyone else around him better by doing the unheralded grunt work. Cotchin plays this role now and is crucial to our midfield. Ross is just as important in his absence.

Missed him, can safely say he’s well ahead of Dow who did fa and spilt a few clutch balls when heat was on
Dow dropped a ball the week before in the final minutes 20 out straight in front that would have sealed the game, was really suprised he came in as emergency after his last month in VFL

Given that dimma favours experience over youth , common with long term coaches , wtf didn’t Parker get a run off 28p at vfl ,,,,what about rcd relative to Dow , or alternately neither , go sonsie

Or over Aarts. Parker is a much better player and was probably our best in the VFL.

Has started to really impress me with his game recently, its really great to see. I had very big concerns that he was not up to the level & thought his ceiling was around a Tim Fleming / Chris Hyde quality player. I think that is a fine level for someone to be, but from previous experience it rarely gets you far enough having players at that level in your side.

His composure in the play has really sured up & he is starting to get that 1000 yard stare that is required for a player of his size to be powerful. I think his field kicking will always be around average, but watching him set-shot kick on Saturday night, I thought he had something to work with there. He definitely has to work on it still. A role where he plays middle & forward drops in for a sneaky 2 goals - much like Jack Graham in 2017, but also Lambert throughtout his whole career.

Long term, he needs to spend the entire summer doing handball work with Edwards. If he can work on his hands & become and elite catch & handball guy, he could be well on his way to proving a lot of us, including me, wrong. Great to see his improvement though - no matter what everyone thought his potential was - no one ever questioned his commitment to wanting to get better.

I thought he was good again. I dont ever expect him to be in our best handful of players on the list, but when going into a game every team needs a 5th, 6th, 7th midfielder.

If Ross becomes a reliable 15-25 possession in any given game solid B grade midfield rotation, then the top end is doing pretty well. You never have 22 stars.

Ideally we will continue to develop more mids around him so by default he is lower in the chain and the next generation of Cotchin, Prestia, Martin types overtake him so he's the 5th or 6th, not the 3rd mid.
