Thought he was one of our better players last night. Composed, didn't try to do too much with a slippery ball, ran hard all night to provide an option and his goal was terrific in the context of the game at that point. Needs to build on it, but positive signs.
Set the tone for our Mids in the 1st qtr especially

Died off afterwards but still made some decent cameos

Loved that goal from right on 50 as well

It's amazing when a player plays his natural position. Picking up where he let off at the end of last year.

Guess that’s the hard part during this transition period we seem to be going through

We have seasoned campaigners who can still play the roles to high standards but now we have this next batch of talent who are ready to play afl and development wise probably won’t learn as much in the vfl anymore

So we need to make the choice of consistency over long term upside and visa versa

Definitely not a bad problem to have but going to far either way can really affect how the side plays

I was thinking he needs to work on his goal kicking before the game and he kicked a ripper from 50 that went over the goal posts lol. 70m drop punt

Has kicked a goal in his last 4 games where he has not been sub. Has been pretty good at hitting the scoreboard lately.

From memory quite a few from long distance as well
Underrated aspect of his game

Ross is in our best 22 imo. Hope they dont drop him.

I've always been of the belief it's one of Graham or Ross. Not both.

They're too like for like to both player together. Especially given the club developed Ross as an outside gut running type instead of the inside mid he came to the club as.

One has to make way for Sonsie to add some skill to our midfield. On form, it's Graham.

good call I've always been of the opinion that Ross is going to end up the more valuable player than JGTI, both lack speed over first 5 metres but Ross can kick it 12-15 metres further, slightly better accumulator, is a better mark overhead and also doesn't get caught with the ball two or three times a game like Jack Graham does.

I've been of fan of Ross since he was a rookie. My gif is of him showing composure in that rookie year.

But I haven't been convinced on the outside switch and dropping weight from that second season. And to be honest it put his career back a good 2-3 years as we completed changed who he was as a player.

Maybe he's finally clicked in this role. The vast difference between Graham and Ross is the defensive stuff. If Ross replaces Graham, he needs to up his tackle rate and defensive running.

I am happy to see him on the list because he’s worked his arse off to get where he is and he’ll give you a consistent output.

Having said that I see him outside our best 22, but how often do you get to put your best 22 on the field.

I will be very disappointed if guys like Sonsie, Clarke and Brown aren’t best 22 in 12-18 months and I think that’ll leave Ross exactly where he is now in the pecking order

Those were the days, Richo, Daffy, Campbell, Bullus & Gale brothers LOL
I know I was just teasing R2R. Ross's hairdo has nothing on some of the shockers out there at the moment. I also wonder if Dusty's do will make us all cringe or laugh on 10 or 20 years. Lol

He seems a better player when I had given him any hope. Seems more sure of himself, doesn't panic, and seems to give himself plenty of time to make decisions.Good on him as hard work sometimes pays off.

Not damaging enough with possessions. 80% of his touches were in the defensive half of the ground and only had 4 contested touches.
A big reason why we couldn’t match Collingwood was our ability to win the contested footy.
Had 7 direct turnovers aswell which killed us.
Out of his 23 touches only 2 of them resulted in a score.

I just don’t think this kid has a weapon that can be elite at AFL level.

Watching Sidebottom tear us apart last Friday night shows once again unless you have elite foot speed, elite endurance or elite kicking on a wing you’re not going to make a big difference to the outcome.

I think Ross is on his last legs in this team.

Need to stick with him, get sonsie in too. these two young boys won't ever develop to there potential in the twos, needs a good run at afl level
I'd have Sonz in too. He was just getting fitness in the VFL With TT & Short& Dusty all IN. I can't see Ross holding his spot. Maybe Pickett gets rested.

When Cotch retires Sonsie slots in to the 22 ahead of Ross.

Clarke is getting AFL games. Had a big preseason. Brown maybe. Tarrant & Grimes out of the backline first and Gibcus and Miller played for them.

We have a lot of 182 cm types too so, Banks, Brown might be a different look from Grimes.

I may be wrong but did not Ross move to half back/wing in the second half last week which is why he had mainly back half possessions.

He has attended 5 centre bounces for the year, most of them would have been in the first half vs Collingwood, where he did play midfield, but those numbers suggest he was moved back. Sidebottom was everywhere early but I doubt Ross was on him for the majority of that time given they swap and interchange so much. Sidebottom killed all our mids early.

7 direct turnovers is pretty normal for us especially in the wet where we just bombed it long and watched it come back at us. We were 1.3 at half time, so 2 score assists was better than any other mid in that half.

I think the eye test is best under those conditions. He seemed one of our few 'safe' players on the weekend. His hand ball especially hit the mark generally and he seemed to have more time with the ball than most others. He had 23 possessions which was equal 4th so not a bad night.

But I agree with you in regard to his position in the team. Wouldn't say he is on his last legs but he surely needs to add a bit more vigour to his game, especially around the coalface. I have seen him tackle really well in games, but that has dropped right off. His midfield days are numbered due to adding thge GWS boys and players like Sonsie coming through. His best position is with Jack Graham as high half forwards, not sure there is room for both in a full side.

Seems a Jack of all trades master of none at the moment, although he is still going pretty well. Difference is Graham has a poor game and keeps his spot, Ross can't afford that luxury. Plus he makes a lousy sub because it seems size or speed late in the game is the way to go.
