Who would have thought, heading into the 7th and final ODI of this Indian tour that Australia would have already wrapped it up. Australia’s defeat of India in this series has been a truly inspiring effort, and India will be left licking their wounds and left pondering in regards to personnel ahead of the next world cup.
For now though, we turn our attention to this dead rubber in Mumbai. Australia will potentially look to expose Jon Holland at international level and give him experience in amongst the Indian conditions. Perhaps, a rest for Shane Watson, who has been without a doubt, absolutely sensational for Australia of late and deserves a well earned rest. Andrew Mcdonald is waiting on the sidelines and might sneak into the lineup as a result, and thus would secure his first ODI cap for Australia. If this was to be the case, Mitchell Johnson’s public requests at a stint to open the batting may be trialed.
India on the other hand may look to salvage some pride and a morale boost. Ishant Sharma is easily India’s most dangerous fast bowler when on song and deserves a recall, perhaps at the expense of Munaf Patel or Praveen Kumar who have been disappointing in their outings this series. Conversely, India may use this game as an opportunity to trial all-rounder Sudeep Tyagi ahead of Ravindra Jadeja and introduce Amit Mishra to alter the balance of a side whose bowling performances have been below par of recent times.
One thing is for sure however, is that India won’t lay down no matter what the series status may be and will seek to improve all round on their performances with the bat, ball, and in the field. With a World Cup only a year away, neither team can look to take any ODI for granted.
Sidenote: By winning the past 2 games, Australia has retained their number 1 ranking which was under threat this series.

Good preview. Just one correction. The venue is not the new DY Patil stadium, but the old Brabourne Stadium. Mumbai has three cricket stadiums--
1. Wankhede Stadium(owner-Mumbai Cricket Association)- -the normal preferred venue. under renovation for world cup.

2. Brabourne(owner-Cricket Club of India)-- the stadium where Australia won their 1st Champion's Trophy.

3. DY Patil(owner- Dr. DY Patil sports Academy)--in New Mumbai--a bit far from the main city--saw some actions in IPL--no internationals so far--very modern state of the art stadium though.

Edit--- sorry for the wrong info. its DY not Brabourne.

Looks like its DY Patil to me

BD is Bene Hilfenhaus his Italian brother? ;)

yea..my bad.. just checked. its indeed DY Patil. But I remember seeing Brabourne in the original schedule. not sure though. Even if you go to the ground section in cricinfo where they give details of the grounds for each series you will see its Brabourne. So may be rescheduled to Dy later on. Anyways DY is a better stadium.

Taking the piss playing Cockley and Holland. Ronnie is fine but those two don't deserve a game on performances to date. I know one day caps have less meaning but surely you have to do something, ANYTHING to get one. Cockley might be ok in the future I guess.

1 Shaun Marsh, 2 Adam Voges, 3. Ricky Ponting, 4 Cameron White, 5 Michael Hussey, 6 Andrew McDonald, 7 Graham Manou (wk), 8 Clint McKay, 9 Jon Holland, 10 Doug Bollinger, 11 Burt Cockley.

If India lose to that team they might as well give up.

Hauritz is sure to play in the first test in Brisbane, but they need a 12th man for this match just in case, so he'll have to stay (cant even send him home early).

I'd rest him from this match and give Holland some exposure on the international scene, let him have a game and see how he goes.

EDIT: Hilfehnaus is still there too, so maybe they could have sent Hauritz home early...

cyclone warnings for mumbai apparently? the sri lankan game has been delayed a day.

80% chance of rain, but the cyclone is only rated as a tropical storm (not even Category One) at the moment, so we should get some play in at least.

Live weather didnt look good though, heavy cloud over Mumbai at the moment.

You would be pretty ticked if you were mcdonald, cockley or holland. This might turn out to be there only chance ever to play for australia in odi'1 and it gets washed out.

Although i reckon Holland and Cockley will get a game in the future though. Mcdonald is still behind watson and hopes
