No idea where the club will be at in a couple of years .

To have roughly the same list for the next 2 seasons , plus we have blokes like Shaw , Goodes , Ted etc that are nearing the end and only to be replaced by unknown kids is worrying.

Be even worse if a Hanners etc wanted to leave and it cant even be a player for player trade.

Makes ya feel pretty shit that they are trying to take us down.

Same list.... I'm pretty cool with that. I know losing Shaw, Goodes and Ted seems bad but based on current form it'd say the growth from within the squad might just counter act those losses.

Another 25 games into Parker, Hannebery, Lloyd, Cunningham, Rohan, Towers and probably 10 each into Naismith, Nankervis, Hewett and Heeney... serious upside there. Another 25 games of familiarization for Tippett and Franklin..... I reckon we will counter act those losses. Admittedly, I couldn't mention a KPD in those names but still the upside to who I have just mentioned makes me worry a little less. Same squad, and most of out core have contracts that will cover the 2 year period, I'm cool with that.

Still filthy that the AFL is playing favourites, but I'll take that siege mentality and back our squad to absolutely stick it up them.

p.s this is my thoughts for the moment. I totally reserve the right to vent my spleen and throw a wobbly in the future....

Don't forget, despite all this crap going on, we can still win the flag next year with a fit squad.

I have sat down and had a think about this. This could totally backfire on the AFL and Vic clubs.

In the short term/2015 - We will take this as an attack on the club and react accordingly. Viciously. Mercilessly. The club want's to stick it right up the AFL and others who have constantly attacked us from 1996, 2005 & 2012 onwards. They want us to be the villains, fine. We grind clubs into the dirt on the field. We don't support the AFL off the field unless we have no option. Even then, Horses pressers could become even more dour and un-informative. Make people switch off early before they get bombarded by more ads. Ask our sponsors to follow us and pull all our money out of the academy and any other initiative the AFL wants to take credit for while we use our money. Half time/post/pre-game interviews? What are those? If we do them then make them as shit as possible.

Medium/longer term - We are forced to play all our young kids alongside some purely amazing leaders and talent a good few years ahead of schedule. In the meantime, we retain guys like Hanners, JPK etc as we haven't replaced them with anyone that isn't at the bottom of the salary barrel (Mitchell, Heenz, Mills etc). Guys like Macca, Goodes & Shaw who obviously love the club play for peanuts well under market value (they are already anyway). We instill a culture of us.v.them ala 2005. We start the new bloods era again like we did in 2005. Ugly ducklings then. Villians now. Bring it the fu*k on.

Just saw this quote, don't know who said it, but thought it was appropriate: "Men are made bigger by adversity and injustice"

I think that rule is untouchable ATM. Academy concessions will depart the scene long before that one goes
Lets hope Heeney, Mills and Dunkley all turn into all time greats and win many premierships so we can stick it right up that fat mess McGuire and the rest of his puppets.

I like that quote, RW. :thumbsu:

I guess it depends on the nature of the adversity, though. A harpoon fired deep into your brain pan from a hater might not exactly leave you feeling a warm afterglow of self-righteousness, and a sense of personal growth and achievement. :p

Hmm. Mental note. Must get myself a Harpoon. :straining:

I think you will find that many of us Swan supporters actually admire what your club has done but unfortunately whilst we've been smashed from pillar to post, we defend ourselves.

I think it is a credit to an organisation that a player wants to join them over others. The Hawks attract players to their team because they have a good culture. As a Swan supporter, I would have liked our club to have been seen in the same light but instead our success gets 'blamed' on CoLA etc. etc.

No problem coming from the average uneducated club supporter in AFL land but when influential Vic club supremos band together with 'friends' that run the competition to bring down the 'reasons' why our great club may be a success, takes me back to the times when the other 11 VFL clubs voted YES to sending us to NSW. In turn they would benefit by sharing the licence fee that was paid to the AFL for allowing us to operate as the Sydney Swans.

Yes! These 11 clubs included the now gone Fitzroy! They too wanted a piece of the licence fee to help them 'survive'!

What the Swans should do & what they will do are two different things.

We should disband the Academy & put those funds into other resources. Our sponsors in QBE are a huge supporter of ours & will stick by us financially.

I'll tell you now!
GWS & GC are like a huge "Academy" for the strong Victorian clubs. They are crying out for an academy because we have one. They already have one in place. Funded by the AFL!

Make a list of all the players that have left GWS or GC & you will find that the majority would have gone to the big Vic clubs.

Yeah I understand/appreciate that.

It's how most Hawthorn posters on here were like after all the Geelong losses.

As for big Eddie and co, and every other club for that matter - you can bet you wouldn't hear diddly from anyone if the AFL had given them CoLA. It just so happens that now Sydney have recruited/drafted and developed some quality players, and thus have become a quality side, that you hear about this.

The AFL taking this course of action is basically endorsing all those that have tried to discredit our achievements & culture built over the last 10 or so years as nothing more than being more advantaged than every one else.

That's fine I guess but it still feels like punishment for taking Buddy from GWS!

Basically it means that we will win the next 3 p'ships!
Melbourne have had a shitload of adversity, how's that working out for them

It took Brisbane's threepeat dominance for their assistance to be revoked in 2004. I know the decade since was a story of significant managerial incompetence, but this chart is telling for what happened to that club post-COLA.
