Ok now everyone is writing us off this year now that we are 2 - 4 after 6 rounds of the 2007 season. I thought i would check something just to make sure i was right before posting.

This is the Sydney Swans record after 6 rounds of their premiership year in 2005.

Round 1: Sydney def Hawthorn by 63
Round 2: Sydney lost to Kangaroos by 23
Round 3: Sydney def Brisbane by 6
Round 4: Sydney lost to Adelaide by 41
Round 5: Sydney lost to Melbourne by 34
Round 6: Sydney lost to West Coast by 45

My point is a slow start doesnt mean we give up on the cup!

I have a theory and I could be wrong but - early ripe, early rotten.

I believe some teams have different training objectives and team management strategeies so some teams fly from February (NAB Cup) through to June then fall away in a heap (the perennial June premiers, we know who they are).

But some teams seem to rope-a-dope during those months, not looking too flash (Sydney/Freo 06 etc.) then begin the real business between June to the END OF SEPTEMBER.

I'm not concinved some Freo players in the 30 dgree heat weren't roping and nursin and building for abig one against Hawthorn this week and many hard games to come, managing niggles etc, until the home straight. We'll have Peake, Schammer, Farmer and others back.

Early ripe, early rotten.

And, respect to the bloke, I don't believe you'll be hearing as much about Buddy Franklin towards the end of the season as now when he gets analysed, sorted, intercepted, and the other substantial teams rise to the top of the cream bucket.

Probably true.

I think the praise being heaped on a lot of the young guns at the moment (especially the first year players like Alwyn Davey, Krakour, Dick etc) will be tempered a little when closer attention is put upon them.

This maybe for this season, but Buddy is a true prospect. The kid is going to be the next pavlich. He will be a superstar. The problem is we're facing him this week and Hawthorn are running hot.
