After a similar thread on the Eagles board, I thought I'd ask my fellow Cats fans what your earliest memories are of supporting the mighty Cats??
Who were your favourite players?? What was the first Geelong game you went to see?? What was the best Geelong game you went to and also the worst?? What was the best mark and goal you saw from a Geelong player??
As for me, my first game was back in 1985 at Waverley... Geelong vs Hawthorn in round one. I remember going with my Dad and looking up at the scoreboard a lot because it was closer for me to see with my bad eyesight. Geelong won and Gary Ablett kicked a bag of goals, so my first game was a good one.
My favourite players were Gary Ablett, Paul Couch, Mark Bairstow, Garry Hocking and currently, Corey Enright, Joel Corey and Darren Milburn.
Gary Ablett took many memorable marks and kicked many freakish goals in his career, way too many to mention. The one goal that stands out for me was one he kicked against Essendon in 1995 at the MCG.... a left foot snap from the boundary line in the last term. It was the first time I can remember my Dad ever jumping up with my brother and I at the footy... that's how good it was!!
As for the best and worst games, the best would be the 1989 and 1995 Preliminary Finals against Essendon and Richmond, the worst without doubt was the 1994 Grand Final against the West Coast Eagles.
