Adelaide flying under the radar: The real deal or pretenders?

great club, plenty of good players but losing to a hawks team by ten goals at the MCG tells me they cant win the flag barring a huge slice of luck.

Like not playing in Melbourne until the grand final and facing the eagles.

Cant beat hawks or blues at the MCG.
Our lack of games on the G does worry me - you guys used the space of the ground and really carved us up, if we don't adjust to it, we will get smashed there.

Can we stop pumping our own tyres on the main board? Please? It could become very embarrassing very quickly. Absolutely nothing wrong with flying beneath the radar; no need to seek any wider 'recognition'. Just ask Collingwood, who've been on fire since the whole Mick/McGuire thing died down.
Not many Crows fans are doing much pumping. We're all very happy with how things are going but no one is already claiming our 3rd flag.

Still pretenders at this stage, despite a terrific performance on the weekend. Win either of the next two matches and be competitive in the other and I'll be convinced.

For starters, I know a ton of Crows fans & never have I heard them say we are premiership contenders. The Bandwagoner's tend to come out & say it, when actually the real supporters are just loving the improvement & 180 spin on last years performance.

I myself have been a fan since day 1 & all I've wanted is wins on the board & Crows to beat some big scalps this year. The only time people should be considering premiership contention is when the finals actually start. Calling it after Round 7 for any team, regardless how good they are is very premature.

This year has shown alone that early year ladder predictions are out the window.

If we lose to Carlton we are pretenders and even if we did beat them, we would still be pretenders because of the blues coming off a shorter break.... can't win with people on here.

There is a whole thread about how BigFooty posters can safely disregard any wins by Adelaide when considering Adelaide's form:

On this basis, Adelaide haven't beaten anyone yet, because Adelaide don't actually have any wins which "count".

While we're playing well at the moment, we have a healthy list (touch wood). If we had half the injuries that some of the other clubs have, we'd be a basket case. We simply can't afford to lose ANYONE in defence or the midfield, or probably the the ruck either.

Two or three injuries to key personnel, and the results of the past two weeks would be very different. We simply don't have the depth of the other clubs in the eight at the moment.

Whilst i agree to a point, our depth isn't that bad. We still have Thompson, mckernan and lynch to come into our side if need be to add some height. In the midfield we still have Douglas and Vince to come back in and if need be we have experienced afl harden bodies in knights and symes.

Our current ladder position certainly inflates our position but it's nice to know we do have some options.

Yep this week will be the final measuring stick imo. Didn't do all that well against the Hawks, but they took care of Sydney at the SCG and murdered the Cats. I'd rate them depending on how they go next week. If they can win, or even lose by a small margin, then with their improvement coupled with a few declining teams and a bit of a soft draw you can basically settle them nice and comfortably in the top 4, 5th at worst. I do think that Carlton, WC, Hawthorn and Collingwood are all better than them though, and that Adelaide are probably around the same mark as my team, maybe a rung above Sydney.

Next Sunday will say a lot about both Carlton and Adelaide. They seem susceptible to getting thrashed in Melbourne by the top tier sides.

If they lose Thompson or Jacobs, they are probably in a bit of trouble. Love the way both of them are playing at the moment, and Tippett's form has been great this year (apart from shanking a few in front of the sticks).

Carlton and Collingwood are their crunch games. At the moment I am still of the opinion that Geelong is playing shit footy, and the Swans are also up and down (plus Goodes went down).

There are still a few sides who only have one or two losses, and they haven't all played each other much. (I think Essendon, with WC, Carlton and Pies have played the most?)

Hawks have had Pies, Cats, Eagles (away), Adelaide and Sydney. Probably similar in difficulty.

They're 4-1, in the top 4, and have a chance to go 5-1 if they get over the Swans. They've had the wood over the swans, beating them 4 out of their last 5 meetings, with Sydney's only win coming in 2010. These matches are usually tight and dour affairs, but with a change of coaches for both teams, we're going to see a tough, free flowing match.

Adelaide have been very impressive with an unconventional attack. They've got a lot of flair in the midfield through Dangerfield, and hard in and under players like Van Berlo. Sydney likewise, have Kennedy and Goodes.

Sydney should prevail in this match, but should Adelaide do so, should they be considered contenders? They're going to be a dark horse this year, and will upset teams. They had a very impressive pre-season win and are following it up in the season proper. It's round 6 and most teams should be playing well, and Adelaide, like Sydney, aren't far off their best. And I hate seeing a really good Adelaide team as they're a genuine premiership threat.
They are like the Hawks . Just building slow paced to come home at the last turn.
But of course they,ll run into the mighty hawks.
