of course you think that, and in Adelaide you would scream exactly that with 30k others, and the umps would pay you those 24-12

noise of affirmation is a real thing, I have no issue with that, umps are human and incredibly fallible

that the same does not occur at Richmond home games, where I assure you, we also think we should have got 24 certain frees today, and we all screamed for them loudly today, drowning your travelling support out, but the free kick count flipped in your favour.

it's dodgy, and it is long term, the whole league is aware of the stats on this.

our club is so spineless about this though, I really hoped Yze would be less obsequious.
One would have thought that if, as you say, it 'keeps happening' to Richmond at home, and it has been happening to Richmond at home for several years, there might actually be something about the way that Richmond plays that causes it? Maybe Richmond could try playing with more discipline?

But I guess if it's easier for you to believe that there's an AFL wide conspiracy where all 40 field umpires have collectively been instructed by the AFL to unfairly conspire against a big 4 Victorian club who make the AFL a lot of money when they win games, for ... some reason, then be my guest.

Port the better side

But WTH with the corrupt umpiring continuing?!

12-24 frees, Ports way, I heard?

I'm always happy to cop those numbers away from home, umps are well known to be biased to home sides, you live with it.

But how can it keep happening to Richmond at home?
2023 free kick differential

Port -68
Richmond -59

2023 free kicks against

Port 484
Richmond 416

Port last year were undisciplined and gave away way too many stupid free kicks. No one to blame but themselves. Hopefully They have addressed it for this year. There was free kicks missed today and others given that were soft. But Richmond were definitely the more undisciplined side today.
The supporters need to demand that the coaches address this with the players, instead of believing there is an AFL wide conspiracy against them.

Richmond has finished 18th in the free kick differential during their home games in the last 7 years. Its the style of football they play that won them 3 flags. Umpires will always be biased against a side that likes to push the undisciplined limits.

Ports free kick differential at home doesn't fair much better either in the last couple of seasons where we have adopted a similar game style of forward half pressure.

Richmond play unsociable football and have done for many years, Hawthorn did it before them and Geelong do it too. They give away free kicks willingly because they know Umps cant pay them all or the count discrepancy would be too great to ignore.
They then rely on the Umps 'evening' it up a bit late in order to avoid scrutiny and it comes into play late in games when it can impact the result of a tight game.
What do those 3 sides have in common other than that...Dynasties.

Problem is, you need the right cattle on the park to play that way, to be able to give up ground with a free here and win it back and then some there.
Richmond dont have that cattle anymore but old habits die hard.

oh for gods sake, 'free kick Hawthorn' had no such issue, quite the opposite, despite being actually unsociable, something the tiges were never known for.

The Tiges dynasty side were in fact known for bringing smiling and having fun and joke telling to the ground for the first time!

Time to let this tin foil hat 'Richmond walks a line and no other club does' nonsense go. utter fantasy.

every club treads the line and hopes they get away with it, a nudge here - but not enough to be a push, a tug of the jumper there - but not too long to be HTM.

every. single. player.
from every. single. club.
at almost. every. contest.

the umpire then interprets - therein lies the source of the issue

as I said, very happy for that interpretation to be somewhat influenced by home crowds, as long as that is consistent for all clubs

Yes, much easier to believe the reasonable and logical 'all AFL umpires are biased against moneymaking big 4 Vic club Richmond for ... some reason' theory.

the stats are the stats...dead last in free kick differentials for nearly a decade
teams like WCE miles in front

why.

just don't try the 'richmond tries harder to win than any other clubs' claptrap, every club pushes right to the line + a toe over it, to gain whatever advantage they can.

nothing against Port btw, this happens to richmond against just about all teams.

Because a) they're undisciplined, and b) (to their credit) they don't have a lot of players who play for frees like teams like the Bulldogs do.

The fact that you seem to think 'Richmond have a gamestyle which is more conducive to giving away frees than other clubs' is some tin foil hat conspiracy theory but 'the entire AFL umpiring fraternity is biased against Richmond' is a logical take says very little about the AFL umpiring fraternity but a lot about your critical thinking skills.

Port treated completely different by the umps tonight...?

24-25 FKs, just about right from neutral perspective

hmm...I wonder why that snapped back so dramatically, was Port's gamestyle simply twice as unsociable tonight compared to last week?
