How on earth would a roof cost 6 billion? You could build 3 new MCG stadiums for 6 billion.

Is it over 1k per game?Have you seen how much we already pay to go to the footy in WA?...
If you are going to defend your rubbish at least know what you are talking about out. It's a shit hole. AFL hasn't been played there in what -15 years?
So.GWS never play home games there and Accor Stadium is always criticised by fans despite holding a bigger capacity than ENGIE.
The Grand Final drew 61,118 fans at Perth Stadium in WA 4 years ago

So you think it's a good venue? Why?If you are going to defend your rubbish at least know what you are talking about out.
You want a GF always near your own clubs home base.So you think it's a good venue? Why?
I actually said 15 but sure -You want a GF always near your own clubs home base.
You tried defending that by saying Aussie Rules hasn’t been played in 12 years at Accor.. factually incorrect by a margin and a half. Shows you actually aren’t knowledgable in the subject you are talking about.
The venue is a good venue when full or close to it.
Also has the best transport options of any sporting precinct in Sydney.
So.
Tv dollars is where it’s at. As long as it’s the premium large venue of the state that can afford it. It ain’t the VfL anymore.
Ha, inadequacy is literally textbook defined as “Hey, everyone, look at the size of my…… crowd”.Yeah, nah. Build 100,000 capacity stadiums, then we'll talk (have literally had 100 years to do so).
WA has the money to do it but refuses to. If it's due to population, have more kids then.
Otherwise, the MCG will remain the best place for the most fans to see their team win a Grand Final live. We're not changing that because of feelings of inadequacy. That's a you problem.
2 actually.I actually said 15 but sure -
One game in 10 years is close enough. I've been to the venue a number of times and that's my opinion. Shit hole.
SCG is Swans home ground. Why aren't Sydney or GWS using it if it's such a good venue ?
If I was campaigning for my own clubs advantage I would be in here saying Marvel is brilliant but please put words into my mouth sir
now you are taking the pissAFL gets the same money from media where ever it's played.
So the difference in their revenue depends on the venue.
Larger venue also means more fans get to attend (because let's face it, they'll cut them before they cut the corporates), and even after cutting the MCC (and they DO get money from them), the MCG is still the largest venue in the country.
The other thing people keep forgetting in this discussion is that the AFL's deal with the MCC is for the whole of the year/season, not just one game. The AFL gets a pretty sweet deal for the AFL members reserve for example. Look at the big picture of AFL income from the ground and the price tag someone would have to pay to get it away gets even bigger.
For those who think the money shouldn't matter, what parts of AFL spending do you propose cutting a few million from?
But sure, let's forget the money and just rotate the game...and pray that when your team next gets to play in the game that it's not held in Hobart.
Which is why we have the states competing to hold the event.
Ok so let’s have the games late at night. Prime time.
If money is your primary concern.
Only for Vics.As I said
"Larger venue also means more fans get to attend (because let's face it, they'll cut them before they cut the corporates), and even after cutting the MCC (and they DO get money from them), the MCG is still the largest venue in the country."
The reasons for playing it are the G works on multiple levels.
matthew_s you better hope Perth stadium has the Hosting rights in 2030.It'll happen - SA and WA state governments will throw money at the league.
Hopefully the Eagles are up the pointy end again by then![]()
Yeah because your membership prevented the AFL Grand final going out side of Victoria in both 2020 and 2021.Not on my MCC membership they won’t.
And why was that stupid poxy MCG grand final contract was extended until 2057?You have mentioned that the MCC would be compensated, but what about the Victorian state government?
The Grand Final contract isn't an agreement between two parties, but three. When the contract was extended in 2018, it added 20 years to the deal in return for $500 million in investment for Victorian AFL venues-- $25 million a year.
I’ll repeat my question from earlier— what financial compensation would the AFL need to pay the Victorian state government to get them to agree to a change in the Grand Final agreement?
Only for Vics.
So all for a night Gf?
As long as they can afford it. Flights accomodation etcWorks for non Vics too.
More 'real fans' from WA get to see the game if the game if it's at the MCG than would if it was at Optus.
As long as they can afford it. Flights accomodation etc
National game, national comp, GF should be too.
“Real fans” always amusing when ****ers think you can’t be a real fan if you don’t earn a lot of money. Sure you’re a Suns fan?
Noticed you don’t answer my statement about time of the GF for more viewers.
So imagine also adding flights and accomodation that have been quadrupled to said ticket prices. If you make the tickets rarer, the cost of them will go up. That's the sure way to ensure that only those with lots of money get to go.
So “more numbers” only works when it’s for what you want.I ignored the timeslot comment because it's not relevant to where it's played. Except of course that if they go for a night GF, then they wont be able to play it in Perth unless them make it a twilight match, which is shitful for both attendees and TV.
I prefer day games, because it allows for plenty of time after the game to celebrate/commiserate. (it's probably also better for kids, but that's not really something I care about particularly).
