AFL considering interstate grand finals

And why was that stupid poxy MCG grand final contract was extended until 2057?

Because in 2018 the Victorian Government contributed $500 million towards upgrading AFL facilities including the MCG, Marvel Stadium, Victoria Park & Ikon Park.

It's almost like a state government supported the AFL in return for a deal that benefited the residents of the state. Sounds like a smart political decision IMO, mate

Victoria is broke so where will the AFL/MCC get the money from? The southern stand doesnt even feel that old. A bit dated sure but not crumbling

More speed/red light cameras should do the trick

The Grand Final moving away from being in Melbourne every year is just common sense.

I don't believe there's a legitimate reason to be against different locations.

Of course, it would be full regardless of who was playing. As if the GF wouldn't sell out.

Umm--- the NRL promotes Grand Final tickets for months and barely sells out in Sydney.

Well we could always make a swings and roundabout thing ... GF at the MCG and all other finals where a Vic team (or at least an MCG tenant (plus Geelong)) plays a non-Vic team it gets played at the non-Vic location.

So harder to get there to make up for the advantage once you get there.

Yup. And it's been decades since the AFL GF even had public tickets on sale, much less failed to sell out. The key point: the AFL GF has massively more demand than the NRL GF.
A one-off (or once in a decade) GF in Sydney won't have any issues selling out.

Are you saying Victorians wouldn’t travel for the GF?

Different sport anyway. It’s a tv game. Aussie Rule is a live game.

Why should Victorians have to travel interstate to watch the Grand Final at an inferior stadium after our state government spent $500 million keeping the Grand Final at the MCG until 2057??

If a Grand Final in Sydney is relying on Victorians to fly in, then maybe it's not a city worthy of hosting a grand final

The AFL Grand Final sells out because it's played in Melbourne ;)

Sydney has had one AFL crowd over 60k since 2008. That would only get Accor stadium to 3/4 full.

As long as they can afford it. Flights accomodation etc
National game, national comp, GF should be too.

“Real fans” always amusing when ****ers think you can’t be a real fan if you don’t earn a lot of money. Sure you’re a Suns fan?

Noticed you don’t answer my statement about time of the GF for more viewers.
Vic’s catching the tram to the ground.

Wonder why non Vic’s can’t take time off work and spend 5k on a GF.

Rubbish, it would be sold out in advance just like the mcg

Would you not travel to Sydney if the tigers had a grand final there?
