you'd think there would be a number of them, imho Naitanui and Jack Darling would make pretty good Tight Ends and maybe Yarran could cut it at running back or as a Wes Welker like Wide Receiver
who else could hack it in the NFL?

Wouldn't last past the first quarter if that. The majority are explosive athletes who have are fantastic are doing one thing and one thing only, for just a handful of seconds of play at a time. Would shit themselves at having to multitask which the average AFL fringe player executes with ease.

I think you misread the OP

Yarran as a running back? Cheers for the laugh.

Agreed. Yarran would get snapped in half first tackle.

AFL players don't have the bulk or the muscle mass to play NFL.

I looked up the team roster for the university I attended in the US, thinking also about some of the footballers I taught there. I'm 5'8 and was tiny, but then I taught some basketballers...

Yarran, as an example, is the the bottom end in height and about 20kg lighter than the college players. Running backs are at the smaller end of the player types.

AFL players would be too small for most positions, except punter. This is partly because we choose and then train players for certain body sizes and shapes to meet the demands of our game. Remember the amount of re-shaping that went into K.Hunt and Folau to train them for AFL.

After watching NFL for a few years I can clearly see that they don't take enough out of sports like AFL or Rugby. I have watched many teams try and run the ball and I have nearly fallen of the couch laughing. Sure no one is disputing it isn't one of the toughest games to play but if your smart you can run the ball with ease if your skills are up, the opposition is more intent on killing the opposition player with the ball then covering opportunities for multiple passes.

Its hard to say which players would adapt to NFL but I think it would surprise a few on how many. Dangerfield would be the first name on my list without a doubt.

Ohhhhhh, if you're SMART its easier to run the ball. Gotcha.

From one American room mate I can tell you that he really romanticized the 'tackle'. He'd show me video after video of the best tacklers from the 80's and 90's etc.
While watching AFL, he'd jumped out of his seat when someone laid a good tackle but didn't bat a eyelash when someone roved and kicked a worm burner to spot someone up 40m away in the forward pocket.

I think most of NFL is about going head to head and seeing who comes out second best. I think most AFL players would just be wasting talent in the NFL. I wouldn't be complaining about the money though.

Run the ball with ease? It's a smaller field for a start. Not an awful lot of room to manoeuvre out there. With multiple passes, are you talking lateral passing like in rugby, or quarterback throws? If the latter, then the opposing team is most definitely looking to cover your passing plays.

For a start, when you set up in NFL, the opposition usually gets a good read on whether you are going for a running play or a passing play and can drop men back or bring them up accordingly.

You need size not only to break tackles, but to block for teammates. You ever see Sav Rocca when he is forced to make a tackle on a punt return? The guys he tackles are not the biggest players, they are the speedy evasive players. He can do it, but gets smashed in the process.

Absolutely. NFL players only play according to the play book. Outside of that, playing according to what's in front of you just doesn't happen or is rare. All games have some structure and game plan, but American Football is to the extreme. It is indeed at times painful to watch and why I find American Football the most boring of all football codes to watch.
