Not sure if there is a thread for this already, Just wondering which school has the most kids getting drafted. Past and Present.

Cheers :)

Sacred Heart in Adelaide and Wesley in Perth are the big AFL factories, IIRC. As for Victoria, it seems to be a pretty even spread across the APS schools (Xavier, Scotch, Melbourne Grammar etc.) and Assumption. St Joe's from Geelong probably has a fair few (Maxwell, Bartel, Scarlett, Ling and plenty of former Geelong players, from memory).

It's hard to say these days, as a lot of the big private schools take in draftees from the country, apparently just so they can say they went to the school, even though they would have been there for a year tops and probably never played footy for the school.

private schools arent like that. surely not. they dont take in students for reasons other than academic surely. they dont remove students simply to boost their numbers of high passes surely.
The best story I heard (and very much true) was that when Haileybury went coed they gave the (now I think the title is true) state schools girls chaptions all scholarships to go to the school. Aparently to every girl in the team. That had nothing to do with accademic results.

Back to the topic though. From Melbourne Xavier or Assumption would be my 2 that produce the most. Melbourne Grammar have produced a few of late as well by memory.

i dont believe that schools make much of a difference to whether or not a kid will get drafted....could go to broady high and if the kid is good enough he will be good enough....nature vs nurture

True that. Upwey High School has been State schools Volleyball champions many times and always has a good program. In 2006, Haileybury offered scholarships to about 7-8 Year 9 and 10 girls. They also took a fair chunk from another good Volleyball school. Haileybury's volleyball coach was a former Australian Junior coach - so he wouldn't have come cheap at the time either.

There was an investigation that showed Haileybury affered over 200 scholarships to girls in various areas (not just sports) to get the Co-ed side going.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Essendon Keilor College. They run a specific footy VCE program and entice kids from the Calder Cannons to do their VCE at the school. Penleigh and Essendon Grammar (their local rivals) also have had a lot of kids end up in the AFL system over the past 20-odd years.

Xavier College has been the standard-bearer in the APS for decades. Meanwhile, lots of kids are coming through Melbourne Grammar now - a result of the scholarships they've handed out in recent years. Caulfield Grammar is another school with scholarship links.

Well over 100 though...?

I'd be surprised.

Remember the school was around in the 1800s and was based in East melbourne and serviced most of the inner city Catholics. Just some of the names I know of include McHale, Kyne, Bedford, La Fontaine, Mckenna, Boyd, Harford, Woods, Owen Abraham, Brian Beers, Mark Beers, Tony Beers, Sergio Silvagni, Craig Considine, Maurie Considine, Jason Croall, Russell Dickson, Kerry Foley, Richard Geary, Robert Hyde, Terry Keays, Mark Lawson, Frank Mount, Shane Watson, Brian Turner, Bill Serong, Pat Shea, Mick Shea, Glen Sandford, Matt Ryan, Bob Rush, Graeme Allan, John Bahen, John Bennetti, Bergin, Shane Bond, John Booth, Bob Brady, Vin Brown, Brian Buckley, Les Cahir, Bobby Carew, John Carmody, Tony Ongarello, Leo Rush, Bryan Rush, John Coghlan, Paddy Guinane, Mick Macguire, Brendan Hackwill, Peter Caven, Terry Board, Ricky Dyson, Adam Pattison, Ben Johnson, Trent Cotchin (not all of his schooling), Neil O'Reily, Lal Mclennan, Jack Garden and Ed Murphy.

That is 60 I can think of just straight off the top of my head.

Almost 150 have gone onto VFL/AFL from Assumption College, according to this.

http://www.weeklytimesnow.com.au/article/2010/05/14/186761_country-footy.html

Almost 150 ex-Assumption footballers have gone on to play VFL-AFL football, and Carroll has had a hand in the development of a fair share of those players – among them Hawthorn champion Peter Crimmins, Geelong larrikin Billy Brownless, Brownlow medallist Shane Crawford and former Test cricketer and St Kilda forward Simon O’Donnell.

Yeah, I've heard numbers like that floated around, I guess it just seems crazy to me that a school would on average have at least one student each year play senior AFL footy. I'd like to see the full lists.

I just listed 60 Parade College students I can think of in a previous post for you. i will try and find a full list.

Yeah, there have been a few of these programs set up with various schools and I think you've found why they probably aren't the most well-renowned for producing footy players: why go to a public school which offers (in my experience) a mickey mouse sporting program, in place of academics, when you can get scholarship offers worth well into five figures to go to an AGS/APS school?

Loyola College has 4 in the AFL at the moment. Kruezer, Heath Shaw, Rhys Shaw and Jack Grimes.
I thought the Shaws were Parade.
Or was that Brayden...

YVGS have gone from nothing a few years ago, to about 2 or 3 a year for the last few drafts. Might even make up for the Clokes some time in the future.

PEGS have always had a pretty good history, particularly Essendon players, Scottie West too.

Let us not forget Assumptions one and only Crackers Keenan.

Used to play against Assumption ( Sacred Heart ) many many years ago, and in each of the years I played against them at least 4 or 5 players went onto play VFL, being in the days before AFL. They were bloody awesome.

Dawes, Watts, the 2 Warnock's and Thursfield are current AFL players who went to Brighton Grammar.

PEGS really only started offering football scholarships in the mid 1980s.
And then they had to be academic as well.
There were the odd few, like Greg Sewell and Greg Brown who filtered their way to Essendon, but it's really only in recent years that it's one every year or two to come out of the school.
Dustin Fletcher, Scott West, Rick Olarenshaw, Zac Dawson, Lance Piciaone, Trent Cotchin, Jake Melksham are a few of the recent Grammarians to make it through.
