Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
I reckon we need to look at a dynamic small forward with innate ability who can be a constant goal threat. Just so happens Tyson Stengle is out of contract this year.
I think we also need to look at a small defender who can break lines on the run or by foot. Lo and behold! Liam Baker is also out of contract this year. Incidentally, Baker goes alright as a small forward, too. Loves Richmond, but if they struggle and we respect him by offering more than a two year contract (!), maybe he has a change of heart.
Other notable smalls OOC: Maurice Rioli and Liam Ryan
Baker would cost a bit and rightly so. Lucky the warchest is intact. I can't see us chasing King or JUH now that we've drafted Caddy.Don't think any of those are realistic; Baker would cost a lot, Stengle found a home at Geelong after early struggles, Liam Ryan seems to have had a few legal issues that WCE have backed him in with, and is Maurice Rioli actually any good?
We've got Gresham coming in and Jayden Davey as a wild-card up forward, plus Alwyn Jnr is a bit of a TBC as to where on the field he ends up settling.

You may be right re: the Daveys. Are you willing to wait a year or two to find out? Jayden's coming back from, what 12 - 18 months out of the game? Alwyn's training as a small back. Hind is just about done. Gresham is a good addition but I don't see a dynamic small forward who can bob up and kick a bag if he plays a high-half role more. Menzie is promising, but both Stengle and Baker lift the standard of the team and challenge those boys to earn spots - good.
I also think we need another Setterfield type.
Bottom line is we still have the scope to trade strongly at year's end due to the chase for free agents. We'd be nuts not to chase a player of Baker's calibre IMO.
Yeah I'd trade McGrath for Baker in a heartbeat.Sorry for Baker I meant trade currency cost, not just salary.
I don't see Stengle leaving Geelong after they've resurrected his career and seemingly got him in a good space after some troubles.
I think we'll know a lot more on the Davey front come the end of this season, Small Forwards are (fairly) easy to get via draft given they can usually contribute from the get-go. Not something I'd be going and spending a huge amount on.
Kako is draft eligible this year I'm pretty sure so would be one we might look at to bolster this area, early days it sounds like he'll go too high for us to get him as an NGA so we'd have to just draft him.
Damn, Weidman it is thenToo soon man too soonI would keep the spot for the MSD. See which key defenders aren’t getting a game for us and look to play them forward
Damn, Weidman it is then.
Is there long enough between now and the deadline to get a good enough look anyway?
i guess Hunter had a path to get ahead of our incumbents (Weid, Jones) anyway.Damn, Weidman it is then.

Looking forward to the Reid/Laverde/Baldwin/Weideman forward or back thread. What a cracker!i guess Hunter had a path to get ahead of our incumbents (Weid, Jones) anyway.
so i guess the spot could be viewed as an opp to fill the best need we can

I don't think he will be a full time forward pocket though. I think Gresh is capable, but he's not a small forward who's going to light it up. Baker can play forward but I'd prefer he takes Hind's place. JDavey might get that spot, but I'm also mindful that he's had 2 ACLs.That's Gresham IMO. Stengle only went at 1.4 goals a game and so did Baker in the second half of the year. That's easy work for Gresham if we play him full time forward pocket.

FWIW, I'm more interested in Baker than Stengle. I didn't know about Kako until today. He could be special.
Talent and a bit of luck can get you a flag or two in a short period, but isn't sustainable.not to mention if they kicked straight they might have added another, hard to tell how impactful the cultural stuff is really.

Culture will get you sustained success over a long period. Look at how clubs like Geelong, Sydney etc have sustained regular finals births and grand finals despite constantly overturning rosters.
They did make a prelim in 2012 and gf in 201512 years is not quickly.![]()
Ewan Smith from Swan Districts id love to see. Project type which we may not need as belowSo, um, SSP candidates? Best key forwards that went undrafted eDPS?
He wont get games with us either unless he really pops this yearIf he is not getting regular games by mid season I would be heavily into Finn McRaes ear from Collingwood.
Perkins = Lipinski as both are heartthrob HFSHe wont get games with us either unless he really pops this year
