Why would it be a conspiracy if it were true?Makes sense
Adelaide dominated 2019
Split them of the nt
And if you give it to the weakest club off field, you can make their women’s stronger potentially bringing in new fans and growth of the suns.
I don’t want it. But I wouldn’t be shocked if there’s some behind the scenes meddling being done by the afl to weaken the crows after last season.
Ps. I’m not normally a conspiracy theorist but this one makes sense. Why have 1 team dominate when there’s such parity in the league and adelaides didn’t really lose anybody from their premiership team.
The when if ever, Sam Kerr struts her stuff in the AFLW is getting further away, currently playing the US, the Euros are chasing her & their season clashes with the Aus season thus putting pressure on the FFA.
Kerr sizing up new FFA deal amid European interest | The World Game
Football Federation Australia has tabled a new deal to try to keep Matildas captain Sam Kerr in the W-League, amid interest from European clubs.theworldgame.sbs.com.au
Yes, she talks about him here. 6:12 and again at 19:28.She is the sister of Daniel, yeah?
SEN Radio is reporting the AFLW will expand to 18 teams by 2024- new teams will start to be added in 2022.
Also, season 2020 is likely to be 8 games, plus a 3 week finals system (2019, 7 + 2 weeks)
Report: Date for AFLW expansion to 18 teams revealed
The AFLW competition committee met recently.www.sen.com.au
On SEN Radio 22.8.19, Daisy Pearce said (paraphrasing) that a BIG majority of players want the AFLW season to be extended in 2020, with more games- there is dissatisfaction with the 2019 short Conference system. They are training as semi-professionals, & want a longer playing season to improve their skills. AFLW player parents wil, shortly,l campaign publicly on this issue for a longer season (implying players fear negative repercussions from the AFL if they publicly argue for a longer season).
Players also want the 2020 season fixture to be announced ASAP!, They need to plan for their job commitment, etc. (virtually all have jobs).
Pearce also said the AFL & the broadcasters are reluctant to expand now, until "the entertainment product improves"- but said how can their average skills improve if the actual no. of games is so short. She also said there is a satisfactory market, & acceptance for tough, competitive AFLW matches: most fans know & understand the AFLW is not, yet, comparable in skill levels to the AFL. Having a longer AFLW season will encourage MORE girls & women to play AF- which will contribute to raising standards more quickly.
Pearce expressed no views as to when the AFLW season should be played.
The AFL has performed admirably with creating the AFLW in 2017, & boosting enormously female GR AF nos. With 14 teams in 2020, IMO, the AFL will expose itself, rightfully, to scorn from the players & a public backlash if it doesn't extend the 2020 season- at least by an additional 2 weeks cf 2019.
AFLW competition committee recommends 11-week season for 2020
Every AFL club will have an AFLW side by 2024 if a recommendation by the AFLW competition committee is ratified by the AFL executive and commission.www.theage.com.au
An example of how they could bring Round 1 forward a week while minimising clashes with high-rating FTA tennis and cricket:Don't schedule any AFLW games on the nights the men's & women's Tennis Open Finals occur (schedule a new game time of Sunday evening &/or Monday evening, which is in school holidays- ditto for BBL Final)
I think they have to wait until the players vote on the agreement. My understanding is that is the only holdup. When would the fixture get released? Im absolutely hanging for it!!
how long would that take? We are still awaiting the conference teams tooI think they have to wait until the players vote on the agreement. My understanding is that is the only holdup.
When would the fixture get released? Im absolutely hanging for it!!
what would be the issue of televising say, 4 or 5 of the 7 games a round? I would prefer a full season where they play every team once but some games missing out on coverage than a conference system
That's exactly right. Just look at the WBBL. Not all matches are broadcast on TV. The AFL could stream the additional matches on their website too (using the streaming services they use for the Nab Under 18 Championships and the Nab League).
The logical solution would be to just have a full season. That is the fairest scenario.
