AFLW AFLW Season 7

Really disappointed with this but follows a trend of captains walking out on the club unfortunately

It’s just the way of expansion. A lot of clubs have lost players. Just the unfortunate nature but thankfully it’s the last time

So that's it now, right? We can't lose more than three players to expansion clubs... correct?

Baird > Hawthorn
Perkins > Hawthorn
Dunn > Port Adelaide

Baird wasn't in the best 20 so no big loss there and I agree with robo_1 that Dunn probably would have struggled to keep her spot if she wasn't captain and she's about to turn 31. Perkins is the one that hurts but apparently we're about to sign Carlton's 2022 leading goalkicker Courtney Jones who is just 21 years old and could be anything. As much as I respect what Perko brought to the group, she's nearing 30 which isn't ideal for our playing group going forward. Overall I think we've gotten through this off season relatively unscathed if the rumour is true that we're signing Jones from Carlton.

Add in two more outstanding academy prospects in Alana Gee and Fleur Davies and it's easy to get excited about the future for our girls.

Other players can move to non-expansion teams :p Just saying.

Dunn is average player at best, IMO. Just don't like when captains leave. Every captain should be committed like Miller and Witts are.
Yeah that is the sticking point for me. She is the skipper and the younger girls are looking up to her. What message does it show when the captain walks out on the club? I seriously thought our AFLW program was going places given our talent but the loss of Perko and Dunn will have an impact especially how we will also be without Pregelj for Season 7. There goes 3 senior players in an already very young team.

The Levi girls are also annoying me- make up your mind. Is it AFLW or Rugby 7s? If they come into the team, they would have an instrumental impact even Teagan who hasn’t debuted yet.

It looks to me like Levi sisters made up their mind last year and nothing has changed. I moved on from them. More talented girls will be coming in. We will be fine.

From 3 players we lost up to now this off-season, none really worries me. Baird looked lost there and was still not up to it. Dunn as I mentioned would struggle to be in the best 22 and Perkins while I liked her and she is a great personality, she can be replaced. I felt forward line was more mobile and worked quite well without her. I would be more worried if we lost Bohanna.

Totally agree with you about the Capt departing our young team, but don't understand why the Levi girls are annoying you......obviously they are very talented young sportswomen, probably in a number of different sports, so they can represent their City and play footy in Aust or represent their Country at Rugby and play all over the world, at the highest level.

I know what decision I'd make, if that choice was in front of me......

Yes but these players are senior experienced players who are our leaders
Yes, its not ideal. Take away the Perkins one as that was for family reasons. But sometimes money talks when these girls are part time footballers. They were appreoached and clearly the offers were too tempting to refuse.

You can't pick and choose who leaves unfortunately. Just gotta take it on the chin and move on. Be glad you haven't been raided at every expansion opportunity like some. And this is the end of it.

This trading though is stupid especially as Port would only trade picks and the way the Women’s Draft works it is location based anyway so draft pick numbers are almost irrelevant
